My next return flight into LHR is a Z fare - so no CDC.

Tristar have quoted what I consider an astronomical price for a transfer home (Norfolk) - £375inc for 130 miles.

Does anyone know of a reputable and more cost effective alternative?

Thanks in advance all!

This may sound silly but try your local fire station.

Many firemen ( and women) have a great deal of off duty - they usually operate around a three shift watch system. During this off duty many of them will do driving jobs. Where we live there is a group of them who will come to your house, drive your car down to the airport, return your car home and leave it on your drive or park it in your garage and then be waiting outside arrivals when you return. ( this is great after a trans-atlantic overnighter)

We have used their services for airport runs and days out at the races, rugby etc.

The return to LHR from Solihull is £100 and £120 to LGW.(plus fuel)

Obviously it's better if you already know someone but simply ring the firestation and ask for the watch leader and they will tell you if they do it?

BCP do a 'Chauffer Drive Express' service which I have used a couple of times.

They are very reliable and I have never had a problem with them. Not sure how much it would be off hand but they can do you a quote online.

IIRC - BCP subcontract the service out to a company called Hallmark Cars, you can not book directly with them though.
Link to BCP here:

Hi, Thank you all for the replies!

The BCP service appears to be offline and I need to book today.

Addison Lee looks good - anyone used these guys before?

Yes. Utterly dependable, slightly cheaper, though not as flash as Tristar.

They send you a text message when the car is assigned to your pickup, with the vehicle type, registration number, and driver's mobile phone number.

You can either pay the driver cash on the day, or you can pay by credit card when you book which attracts a booking fee (£3 I think).

Do Addison Lee do airport transfers where the start point in outside the M25 ? I couldn't quite work it out from the website.

Thanks

Booked with Addison Lee - much better price than Tristar!

My destination is Norfolk (WELL outside the M25) so I guess the answer is yes, though you can get a quote from the website.

Thank you all for your input - it's been a great help (and saving)!
