Hi, I'm new to the forum.

In January I'm flying to Australia for my brother's wedding and am stopping off en route in Hong kong for 4 days. In order to economise my better half has booked the LHR-HKG-LHR legs on BA and HKG-SYD-HKG legs on VS. This isn't a problem going out because we're staying for 4 days, however on return this allows us 3 hours between flights at HKG.

Is this enough time and how easy is it to transit between airlines at HKG? Do I collect baggage and return to check in or is there a transit channel after baggage collection?

That might be a little tight. I have taken the SYD-HKG sector on 3 occasions and we have been late everytime.

Weather conditions don't usually help that particular flight, it's nearly always into the wind all the way up to HKG. Any flight time under 9 hours is normally pretty good.

Once at HKG, you would need to pass security, collect your bags and go back upstairs to check-in. There is no short-cut that I am aware of to speed up this process.

BA have 2-3 flights back from HKG to LHR per day, I would check if you can book onto a later flight or re-book for the following day...:D

One other solution is to bin the BA sector and re-book with VS - You know you want to...[:p]

We're flying back on BA028 which departs (last flight before next evening) at 01.10 with VS201 arriving beforehand at 10.05!

the reason we're doing it is that for both BA and VS we're using discounts from knowing staff at both, so mates rates on BA and it works out £650 cheaper between the two of us to use BA!
