UPDATE:

Unless you got an invite for this promo from AmEx, then don't bother trying to register. The invite is for you only, and cannot be used for any supps on your account. Another fine mess by AmEx again. If you didn't get an invite, I'd suggest you give AmEx Platinum/Centurion a ring and ask why you're not loved by them. One day they will learn how not to alienate a sizeable proportion of their premium card base.

For UK AmEX Platinum and Centurion cardholders:

http://www.virginatlantic.com/aeplatinum for Platinum Cardholders

http://www.virginatlantic.com/aecenturion for Centurion Cardholders

Both are the same offer (nice to see differentiation for Centurion members eh?):

1000 MR Points
FC Silver
Double MR points if you book and take a revenue flight before end of August

Thanks,
Richard

Got the mailer today, impressed? NOT! Why don't they check their records or is this another case of data protection preventing different company divisions from sharing data with each other?

I thought Cent card holders now got FC Gold?

No, I think they are giving everyone and his dog FC Ag now. I've just used the link myself to move my parents to FC Ag as they are genuinely Platinum supps on my Centurion account, and the f*cking thing doesn't even ask for my AmEx number. Nope it's click, create a user name, click, enter name & address, click, confirm mailign preferences, click, done - here is your new Silver membership number.

Can someone not negotiate on behalf of all V-Flyer members - automatic Ag....
Or don't we class as "everyone and his dog"?

Two friends we are travelling to SFO with in September have previously registered with FC from invites from Dean for Miles More Friends. They have Amex Plat so advised them of this, apparently they spoke to someone and have been told its for new members only.

Just checking the T&C's and note the following:
To qualify for the instant Flying Club Silver and bonus Membership Rewards points offer you must a) become a UK based Flying Club member, b) join Flying Club via the specified URL ONLY between 30 January and 29 February 2008 (inclusive), c) have booked and flown with Virgin Atlantic in a qualifying class between 30 January 2008 and 31 August 2008 inclusive (ÒQualifying ClassÓ)

They booked their flights after 30th Jan, but they are already members so guess that rules them out. :(

Mat - if you get your friends to use the link provided by Richard then they will get Ag status straight away too. Just click the current members upgrade button, enter their FC number and then they will get an email with their new Ag FC number and the pack will arrive a few weeks later. Worked for me and many others who haven't got an Amex Plat card.

Note from Flying Club about this:

'All UK Flying Club members who were not part of our mailing list for this and are therefore in-eligible for this offer, will be downgraded where they have used the link to obtain a Status against our Flying Club offer and normal Terms and Conditions.'

I'm in the process of trying to validate this in regards to:
- Validity for anyone who does genuinely have a UK Centurion or UK Platinum card - seems a bit cheeky on AmEx's part to not negotiate the offer for the entire estate of the eligible customers and not just a targeted list. I'd be having strong words with Centurion if I found out that this had been sent to other Centurions, and me not included.
- Following on from that, validity for supps, as they won't be down as a targeted member but are Platinum card holders (main supp on Plat, and all supps on Centurion).

Will let you know.

Thanks,
Richard

Yet another example of Amex not looking after their loyal customer base[n][n][n]

Do let us know how you get on

Indeed. Sorry I forgot to update this. It went out to a small subset of people who have Plat/Cent and were identified by AmEx who have a suitable travel spend. Rules me out then as I won't touch AmEx travel with a 4000ft bargepole.

They will never learn; in today's Internet age, people find out about promos and you can't go alienating customers of an alleged premium/ultra-premium product by offering differing levels of beenfits. [V]

I feel a call to AmEx coming on - if you're going to do nonsense like this then don't put the sites in a public accesible place to rub noses in it.

Thanks,
Richard
