Virgin Atlantic Amex sms service

I did a quick search of the forums, but could not find a thread, although I am sure I have read about it here previously.

Yesterday I recieved an sms from MBNA/Virgin to say that each and every Friday they will sms me my account balance.

The sms claims this is a free service and whilst it is of no great use to me, I wondered how common this is ? My parents both have the card and didnt get the same message.

I used to get the texts but, as I check my account online regularly, I found them to be a total waste of time and cancelled them.

The service has been around since last year as Nick has pointed out.

It looks like MBNA are going throught their account database once more as my tuther half also recieved a message yesterday.
