Platinum Hotel

Just a quick review of the Platinum condominiums on Flamingo. DON'T BOTHER!! The houskeeping was so bad that every day I had to phone down at 6:30pm to get my room cleaned. We were on the 4th. floor and there was a strange smell of 'dogs breath' throughout the floor. I had a meeting in my room one evening at 8pm with the manager and houskeeping to show them that even after cleaning, the bins hadn't been emptied, the bath not cleaned, the carpet not vacuumed, the counter tops not wiped. This resulted in me getting $400 knocked off the room bill, as this was happening every day. The place is like a morgue on weekdays. On 3 consecutive days Mrs. Stoneman and I were the ONLY people by the pool.(this was Memorial day week, so Vegas was busy all week) On the weekend if you hadn't got your place by 11am, forget it.The food is over rated and very expensive. The rooms were nice enough and plenty of space, but thats about it. Because of the location off strip, no taxis go down there. We watched the doorman whistling for cabs loads of times, people queuing, and most just walking off up towards the strip. Not my best experience. And to think I canceled my week at The Signature to try this place out[V]

Thanks for your notes. I have booked this hotel for our Christmas trip based upon its tripadvisor.com rating (5th best from 240 in Las Vegas) and reviews. Will keep an eye on the cleaning etc.

Am I correct to assume that only part of the Platinum operates as a hotel? The remainder have permanent residents?

Not sure on that one. One tip is to book the Solitaire suite as most people I spoke to there had gotten a free upgrade due to the place being empty, and around Xmas, it will be empty.
I think that one reason the houskeeping is not mentioned in tripadviser reports is because 99% of people only stay there 1 or 2 nights. and in that space of time you don't notice a build up of rubbish and lack of cleaning. also, make sure you look on the shelf above the coffee maker, there is some good match bet vouchers for the Tuscany casino next door. Also in your key wallet there is a $10 drink comp voucher that we didn't notice till the last day. Mind you, the cheapest cocktail in the bar is $13.00

Thanks for your tips. We will be staying for 5 nights so will also keep an eye on cleaning. I have a Trip advisor bag which I will place on the counter when checking in - hopefully I'll get an upgrade???

To be honest, we will be paying £68 a night and condsider even our chaep suite good value. We have also been to Vegas many times before so location is not a factor. We are however looking forward to the pool. As December is our usual visit month, we have never been swimming in Vegas before - too cold. Did you know, the Platinum is the only Vegas hotel with an indoor swimming pool?

Now be careful of this pool, it is not really indoors. It is an extension of the outdoor pool that goes indoors, but there is no partition where the water goes in to keep the weather out. I doubt if it gets heated, as they will have to heat the outdoors as well, and it is very tiny, about 20sq. mtrs. Maybe you can email them to find out if it gets heated and closed off in the winter. BTW, I thought Bellagio had an indoor pool?
It will be OK to walk up to the strip, took us 10 minutes to the Flamingo, and the area is not as bad as people make out
One must do, go around the corner to Ellis Island, and have the BBQ, it is the biggest thing you will see in your life, and only $11 each.
UPDATE!!
I have had an email today from the general manager of the hotel group that runs the Platinum, and he has offered me a weeks FREE stay in September, now that is service. So I guess the cleaning wasn't that bad, and the food that expensive, and who cares about cabs, we hire a car, so looks like I will be staying there again in 4 months

Just back from our trip which included 5 nights at the Platinum. It was also our first Vegas trip without a car (which turned out to be a big mistake).

The Platinum Hotel is beautiful and was great value for money, however very poorly managed. As Stoneman said, housekeeping maids don't have a clue. Each day their role appeared to be mainly making our bed and tidying towels. Bins were emptied every 2nd or 3rd day, new coffee and sugar was forgotten twice. My biggest gripe was finding our 2 coffee cups in the dishwasher; on their own. To make things worse, it appeared that tablets were not added as the cups came out as dirty as they went in.

For a hotel that has only been opened 13 months, we found it tatty and worn in places simply down to poor maintenance and/or poor design.

The hot tub on the roof is good fun especially at night looking towards the strip.
