Had booked a really cheap coach ticket many months ago, and at the self-service check-in I was offered an on the day upgrade to first for $90. I thought, what the heck, give AA domestic first a try. Got told off as my checked bag was 2 pounds over the limit, although no charge.

Was disappointed to find that domestic first in the US does not offer lounge access, although there wasn't that much time really to hang around.

Boarded on time (First were boarded first, so that everyone else had to walk through whilst the CC were trying to source us drinks). Seats were pretty comfortable and there was a lot of extra leg room than back in coach. They did look a little dated though. Complimentary pre-flight drink served in a plastic glass for some reason. There were 8 in First (50% full) and coach seemed rather empty.

After take-off drinks orders were taken and served in glass this time, with a packet of premium luxury snacks. There was some inflight entertainment - music channels and TV on an overhead screen. There were continual drink refills offered throughout the flight, without the need to ever ask.

However I had expected some kind of food option might be offered. I should have known this wasn't going to happen as one person in first boarded with a tray of Nachos and a cup of soup!! THe food trolley did move out from the galley, but only so the flight crew could be served a meal.

Overall an interesting experience, which was worth trying for only about 45. Bit disappointed about the lack of food.....especially as I kinda fancied something to mop up all the alcohol being served!! Apparently domestic first over 2 hours are served food in AA First.
