Instead of flying between cities, I just wondered if anyone has tried anyone like LimoLiner to get between BOS and NYC. Is it quite a pleasant way to travel, nice scenery to look at, or 4 hours stuck on a motorway with nothing to do except wish I'd gone on Jet Blue?

TIA and Merry Christmas!

You could get the train - http://www.amtrak.com

A few of us had to get from BOS to JFK last year (nothing to do with the fact that there was a Clubhouse at JFK [:I]).

I rented a vehicle in BOS and did the drive down which was rather pleasant, and we stopped off enroute so some people could buy crap at Walmart. With the 6 of us, it was by far the cheapest option - even with the $9.95 per day SatNav (just make sure the time on the SatNav is set correctly). Took just over 3 hours if I recall.

If you want to make it a bit more of an adventure, try taking the ferry from New London to Orient Point on Long Island. A lot less driving and some parts of LI are very pleasant.

I'd go Amtrak--Excela is 3.30 hours South Station to Penn Station midtown NYC--a coach ticket is $50 (25 pounds) something, business $80 something and first class generally around $168-$170. The scenery is good (mostly--especially if booked via Providence as it is coastal) and it certainly beats spending the same or more @ of time waiting for planes, cabbing into the city etc.

There are several bus/limo services but it's all turnpike and interstate, and really, highway is highway is highway.

cheers,

I did it a couple of years ago by train...... I was travelling alone with quite a bit of kit.... I pre booked a first class ticket with Amtrack which was really comfy and the Amtrack staff couldnt have been more helpful getting my kit on and off the train. From what I remember I was served a really nice meal, drinks etc etc. For the service I thought the cost was very reasonable.

Cheers

Have done it both on the Acella Express and on DL from LGA.

Would recomend the Acella Express- very nice and enjoyable. Tbh no real difference to getting a First Great Western or GNER service in the UK.

The plane had its advantages, especially leaving from the old seaplane terminal at LGA, very quiet and quick.

Me and the present Mrs Treelo took the Acela express from Boston to NYC a couple of years ago - it was one of the most pleasant travel experiences we have ever encountered by rail, air or road. The service, from initial internet booking through the help with bags to the assistance into the 'quiet car' (no mobiles or loud talking permitted) was exceptional. The scenery along the route wasn't too bad and the whole trip seemed to whizz by. And no, I am not on commission!!!! [:D]
