Wanting to go a day earlier...

So the subject says it all...we wanna head across the pond a day earlier in december (the 13th instead of the 14th) but virgin are wanting to quote me an extra 112...

Ok i understand amendment fees etc but i don't understand it when the fare on the net is 40 cheaper than it was when i originally booked...

The folk i spoke to on the phone said those are promotional rates and are only eligible for new bookings but it really iritates me when the only people i've ever given my money to are wanting to charge me ridiculous amounts for a day extra... [V]

Is it really too much to ask...in the space of 6 months i'm giving them money for my december trip and a florida one in may....nearly 3k....i only want an extra day....... [:?]

Unfortunately this 'flexibility' is how Virgin make their money. Restricted tickets are just that, once booked almost impossible to change (emergencies are an exception), unrestricted 'full fare' allow you to change flights and get refunds. There is no difference in service (apart from in Upper Class where you also get the limo driver) but on-board everything is the same. You have just paid a whole lot extra for that flexibility.

And because of this extra money they make they are very strict on restricted tickets, otherwise those who pay 2 or 3 times more for their ticket will be understandably ticked off.

well come to think of it then i wasn't even given the opportunity of any other ticket but the non refundable one...

Just annoys me especially as they're ok to change the flight times (on our return flight) but when i want to fly out one day earlier...

I'm not even not wanting to pay, i'm just not wanting to pay £112...i'd expect probably the amendment fee LESS £40.....they're still pocketing my money...

If you booked online you were - you had the choice of selecting 'lowest fare' or 'flexible'.

£112 actually seems pretty reasonable to me to upgrade your fare to a changeable one.

i've just gone back on it and its no different now than it was back then...

theres special offers and lowest fare...doesn't say anywhere about flexibility...

It is in the 'cabin' drop down list. It will be automatically on Economy (Lowest) but there are options for flexible too. The price difference is normally HUGE though, when a basic non flexible Economy fare is say £300/£400 a fully flexible can easily be £1000 so I very much doubt you would have wanted to buy a flexible fare anyway.

The T&C's are pretty clear about changes and whilst it might not seem fair there really isn't much you can do about it.

Yeah, we have fallen foul of that one too.We tried to move our flight to MCO last Nov to the next day to be on the same flight as my In Laws but VS weren't having any of it. I'm afraid if you want the benefits of flexibilty you gotta pay for it.[:)]
