VS019 to Virgin America SFO - LAS

I am looking for an alternative method of travelling to Las Vegas and I understand I can fly LHR - SFO and then transfer to VX for SFO - LAS.

My question is has anybody done this and were the connections ok, from the timings and on a good day I would have 2 Hours & 20 Mins from Landing to take off, presumably giving me an hour to get off the plane. pick up luggage and check in.

Your advice/experiences would be appreciated.

Yes I have indeed done this and there was plenty of time. Enough for me to go to the clubhouse for a shower and bite to eat. That said I was in Upper so both myself and my bags were first off, and you do have to collect your luggage and go through all the customs things before checking your luggage back in again, but it's only 4mins or so from getting out of arrivals to being at the check in... and personally I prefer to collect my luggage and check it in again, every time I send it all the way through I arrive but it doesn't. Good idea using this route as well, you'll get a much nicer plane and V Port. Yay!

Why bother? If you can get to LHR then surely the short journey to LGW for a direct flight has to make more sense. A shorter flight time and no stress thinking about a possible missed connection if you get delayed.
I prefer to spend my time actually in Vegas not in an airport.[:D]

I have looked at the direct flight, but PE is £1200. Where as the alternative option is £950 (Inc the internal).

What I failed to explain as well is that I will be doing a multi city and flying back from LAS to LGW, but I was concerned about the connections at SFO.

A saving of £250 is not to be sniffed at!!

I disagree Jeffers, in my opinion it's worth it to be able to get full advantage of the LHR Clubhouse and the VOD entertainment system on board for such a long flight... also to avoid some of the stag-do riff raff that the LGW flights are so often made up of.

Doesn't look like MT will be getting LHR clubhouse access as listed as FC Red.
I've just booked the same routing, LGW-LAS then SFO-LHR. To me V-Port isn't worth the extra time in transit and PE from LGW means travelling upstairs.

I guess there are many factors for each individual, CH access, IFE, new PE seats etc all come into the consideration along with the costs.

For me personally, to get/from LGW is a nightmare and is something I will avoid at all costs. The difference it can make is a good 1hr 30mins + on our journey to/from the airport so routing through LHR is always our preferred option.

Timing should be OK - its all in the same terminal building at SFO so theres minimal lugging of bags around.

In the past Ive done LHR-LAX then LAX-LAS on Southwest to save a few more £100; you used to be able to book a later flight with Southwest & then get moved to an earlier one for no charge if you were on time ; Im not sure that they do that for the cheap internet fares anymore though.

Sadly they dont. But as always, there are exceptions to the rules.

I did it myself a couple of months ago. It really was easy. I could have gone to the clubhouse like mediamonkey did but I chose not to as security was very quiet and I didn't want to run the risk of it getting snagged up
