Well, after reluctantly leaving the Concorde Lounge (see review under BA forum), we made our way, via shuttle, to our gate on satellite B. There was a bit of a queue but luckily we soon saw the Fast Track (lack of) queue and was let through right away.

Just the one gang way, but as soon as our A class ticket was viewed, we were escorted under the useage of our name, direct to our seats. We were the first there, our coats were hung up and Tattinger was offered straight away, with some nuts (same as Club I think, but on a plate!).

Soon we were relaxing in our chair as our 9 fellow travellers joined us in our little piece of heaven at the front of the plain. The captain soon introduced himself, unfortunately saying that 3 people had decided not to travel (how can you suddenly decide that?!) and the luggage had to be removed, consequently losing our place in the take off slot, meaning a 50 minute delay. Oh well, there were 2 more top up's of champers, so no worries! Sleep suits and proper travel pack bags were handed out, containing the usual moisturiser, a great sleeping mask, socks etc. Very good, back to the good old days of VA!

We took off eventually, then came the canopees. Pleasant nibbles, with a G&T to accompany. Menus were handed out on very swish paper/card, very professionally presented, with a seperate wine list, of 6 choices, 3 red and 3 white. Starters was (from memory, which isn't very good!) Cheese and Quince tart, some salmon thing, sweet potato and squash soup or a salad. I chose something off a quick snack option of Pasta in a creamy garlic sauce with croutons (large crispy slices of garlic bread) - tasty and nicely presented, with nice cutlery on tablecloth with proper salt and pepper grinders.

Main course was catch of the day, something else (told you) or char grilled steak, which I had and was absolutely delicious! Tender and tasty, with peas and hand cut chips and mustard as a side. Very nice, far better than most airplane food! Washed down with a couple of glasses of Shiraz, then cheese and biscuits and a handsome port, the whole meal experience was very pleasurable ( a phrase not always heard!).

Managed to watch a couple of movies (Don't Mess with the Zohan - Don't bother watching) and a thriller by the Sixth Sence man whose name is long, but again the film lacked a wholesome ending. The IFE was VOD with touch screen, very easy to use. Games were also there and for first time I won a Million on Millionaire, but was very underwhelmed by the outcome of a couple of flashing lights, no sound then the game started again - I wanted a captain announcement or the like, but it was still a personal achievement for me!

Soon the lights were dimmed and the bed was made. Duvet was lovely and soft as was the sheet, although no slippers (as advertised). No matter, I soon layed down on the long bed and dozed on and off for a few hours, although it was very warm, so I slept on the sheet and divet - I always find it hot on planes at night.

Before you knew it breakfast was offered, but still full up from dinner that only seemed an hour or so before, so I delcined, with only a boll of cornflakes and OJ. Have to say the fully cooked looked lovely, with proper bacon, scrambled eggs, mushrooms, sausages and tost and coffee. Wished I had it, but couldn't really manage.

Throughout the flight, our names were used consistently, and service, while not intrusive, was full and attentive and very firendly. No introduction from the CD (or whatever they call themsleves) but we were served by her I believe. On way back from Tokyo in a couple of weeks we have a day flight so will be interesting to see if that differs.

Flight was faultless, we were pampered and spoilt and had a thoroughly nice time. Cabin was a quiet environment, nice surroundings, a rose in the loos! Plane was full in Y and 90% in J. The departure door was the one from First, and for the first time I think, I was first off the plane into another haven that is called Beijing airport.

So quiet, clean, efficient!! Not like UK airports. We were ushered to immigration with no queue and a smile. The airport seemed empty and it was a pleasure to be in!! Luggage however was a bit delayed, with no discrimination for First, in fact some tour companies came out before ours. No matter, at least they arrived and then we were soon on our way.

Great T5 expereince and great flight. Looking forward to the return leg - after of course a fantastic holiday!!
