I hope it is mere coincidence that the first two threads in the Other Ailrines forum are both about Aeroflot:

(1) Passengers reject Pilot
and
(2) 88 die in Aeroflot - Nord plane crash

OMG, that is shocking and very worrying[:0]
A spokesman was named 'Smirnov' how very apt, maybe, that was what the pilot was re-fueled on[}:)]
Perhaps it is now time to do Blood tests on the Pilots before they board the aircraft and take innocent people's lives in there hands? I cannot tolerate drink drivers[:(!], a drunk pilot should be put in jail for the rest of his life[y]

Different cultures have different standards.
It amazes me just how well some Russians can perform with almost pure Vodka in their veins!

It's the 'no big deal' comment that I find most worrying.

Quite true, been there done it, seen it. They do drink a lot but it is over a long period of time and they always drink vodka straight, not with a mixer, therefore less sugar and a slower absorbsion rate. They also eat as they drink which helps. The father in law and his brothers can destroy me in a one night session easily[:w]

If I were on that flight and suspected the pilot was drunk I would be off the aircraft like a shot. [:0]

Today's Guardian G2 section carries a further report from a passenger. This isn't in their on-line edition, so I'll just share the last couple of lines..

'(The Aeroflot representative) sought to reassure us that a drunk pilot is not such a big deal. 'Really, all he has to do is press the buttons and the plan flies itself' he said 'the worst that could happen is he'll trip over something in the cockpit''

So long as what he trips over isn't the button that makes the plane fly itself [:w]

I wonder what this 'battery of medical tests' involves? Clearly not a breathalyser or even a deep sniff.

Perhaps you have to be drunk to fly Aeroflot?
