Not good news, although SRB says 'could axe up to 600' and then it would be started with voluntary redundancies. I guess it was something we were expecting but just hoped wouldn't happen, but with the recent flight cuts, less crew/staff in general are needed.

The question is where will any cuts fall? Crew, ground staff, sales teams, bean counters? If crew, will there be any route reductions such as one of the HKG flights or a JFK?

Many of cuts may come from vacancies not being filled etc. which at least saves some pain.

Any attempt to have disproportionate cuts in any one area would create real anger. That would not help!
It must be assumed that they will be across the board.
Flight reductions have already been announced and could indicate where future cuts are more likely.
These have been nearly all in the LHR flights - where you would expect business flight reduction to be most severe. To an extent the LGW flights have been helped by major capacity reductions by other airline - eg XL - where VS can pick up extra pax such as from the Travelcity acquisition.

Destinations currently served by multiple flights are obvious targets. Also possibly routes such as ORD.
Just guessing!

No sector is immune in the current climate[n] It makes sense for any company to consolidate wherever possible in these difficult times to try and protect the business in the long term

My heart goes out to every employee in Virgin as I know only too well the uncertainty these announcements cause.
