Planning trip to MCO from MAN April/May 2010.

We have only flown economy before; this time we will fly pe/uc.

Any advice? UC looks really nice but PE doesn't look to shabby.

Cost wise (two seats) PE with miles plus money about 1500, UC looks about 3300.

Could do PE out and UC back for the overnight flght and UC bed.

Would book early and only go for PE upstairs.

Any thoughts.........

Hi Steve,

Take a look at the trip reports in the forum and have a read of other members recent experiences, these will give you a good idea of what to expect onboard. Just remember to sit back and enjoy it all.

I would agree with PE out and UC back for the bed so you end the holiday on a high.

Thanks,
Sarah

Although I would possibly suggest outbound in Upper, so that you get the experience during the daytime (better than just sleeping through it!). Also you may not be able to guarantee that you will get a seat upstairs - some of these are pre-reserved for Virgin Holidays passengers.

Thanks for the replies so far.

I think VH have the front upstairs bubble allocated, but the remaining ones are up for grabs (including the favoured 80hk and 79ac).

I'll be booking as as the VA website allows and selecting seats then - I'll check on expert flyer what seats are free.

I take the point about enjoying UC on the way out.

How does the PE seat compare to economy?

LOL To be fair I dont think you could manage much in the UC suite, its not that private [:)]

The PE seat in comparison to the Y seat has a good 8 inches or so more room from the seat infront. It is noticibly wider and reclines further too. The seat has a small drinks rest inbetween the two seats. The main difference for me is the cabin, it feels much better as its smaller with less seats. If you are upstairs in the bubble it really is like a business class from the past, and the aisle is much wider that you can slip past a trolley with ease. There is the meal service that also adds to the touch that PE is a seperate class from Economy with cutlery.

Thanks,
Sarah

As a FC Gold member, you should be able to get the spare Upstairs PE seats if you check in at a reasonable time, assuming they have not gone.

There are bulkhead seats and Exit row seats upstairs, both of these are only assigned at check in, and as long as there are no infants in that cabin, you stand a good chance of getting a pair of seats.

My PE preference is the PE seats downstairs, as the upstairs can get a bit rowdy if there is a large family booking.

Flights last 2 weeks in April 2010 should be up soon, so decision time.

Head says PE out and UC in; heart says stuff it and go UC both ways.

Just got my new VA Amex cc, so aim to get 3000 miles for using it and 2 per £ for booking via Virgin Atlantic.

Having some building work done as well, so will pay for kitchen/bathrooms etc with card and get even more airmiles.

Which way will I go?

Watch this space.

Slightly OT, but why not get the black card and get 4x miles with VS and 2xmiles on all other spending if you plan on large outlays soon?

Also slightly OT, check the prices without going the M+M route, there are times where the savings are very little and you lose the miles and TP's.

Because I have a pathological dislike of paying fees to credit card companies - but you are right I guess i am cutting off my nose to spite my face!

Just to say what other have said, do fly out in upper otherwise you will sleep through it - no CH - bar onboard will be quiet - menu will be goodnight flight menu.

cheers

ok, deed is done - PE out and UC back.
If there was a decent Club House at Man I might have wavered.

All the same I suspect once we've sampled UC that will be it for life.

Have nabbed 79a and c and 6a and k.

Well you banked some of the most sought after seats - well done!

Well, that was the aim.

Might have paid less if we had waited, but if you want and see it then get it. (was that a pop song some time ago?)
