I am due to go on Vs075 on 21 Aug, (party of 5). I have been on the Virgin Website to book seats and have got a block of 5 seasts together, but quite near the back, I have read that they try and keep families together, so what are the options of us getting closer to the front, (but so 3 excited kids can actually see something other than wing). If I try online checkin bang on 24 hrs before we go, will I be able to reselect seats, or can we potentially move if we chck in real early on the day ? If so what time ?
My other question is around the seat plan, VS website 'manage your flights' indicates we get the seating plan that seems to apply to 'Nova' aircraft.
What is the liklehood of us getting a Nova aircraft, is it almost certain, given the seatplans offered on the website

thanks for the useful info provided so far.

You can change seats all you like via the VS website (it's manage my booking)

I've just had a look on ExpertFlyer and there are some seats in rows 32 and 33.

The aircraft are normally 747's from MAN - perhaps someone else can answer about the IFE cos I can't remember!

You may be either on a Nova or Odyssey a/c - if you look at the seat map in manage booking and look near the front of the plane, if the 'mini' economy section has 4 rows (21-24) then it's an Odessey a/c, if there are 2/3 rows (21-23) then its Nova. The former IFE is better than the latter. Very unlikely to get a LHR a/c with V:Port.

Your best chance is to do OLCI but if its a full flight (likely given its in the school holidays) then the chances of moving a group of 5 around are slim. One advantage of being near the back is that you will get your meal quickly and probably have your choice. The kids will be able to see still back there as it doesn't sound like you are near the wing.

That said, VS don't guarantee the seats you have requested so be prepared for your to be moved anyway!

Your options for moving seats are quite limited really. You can try at OLCI stage, but as flyerdavid as said, if the flight is full then the chances of their being any seats to move to are slim. Virgin only release 60% of the seats for pre-selection, the other 40% are held back for OLCI stage, but if there are a large number of families who haven't got any seats booked then the system doesn't allow any seat changes as it needs to allocate seats for those families. It will be a similar thing at the airport. There really isn't much to see anyway, so sitting in the middle or at the back will make very little difference to that.

The LGW/MAN fleet have 3 a/c fitted with the Odyseey IFE and 5 with the Nova IFE, so the chances are always more likely be the Nova. The seat map showing in the manage my booking section will be the most accurate as to which type of a/c you are currently due to fly on, but remember things do change, very often at the last minute so nothing is set in stone.
