Hi, Just wondering what other flyers views on this are...

When on a long flight and your in between drink runs and fancy a beer or soft drink, would you walk to the gally to ask for it or use the call button?
Do crew prefer one way or the other?

i can see going to the gally could interupt crew if they are preparing food etc but feel lazy calling them over...

If you see a member of crew nearby by all means use your call button. If you feel like stretching your legs there's nothing wrong with visiting the galley and requesting your beverage. Use your discretion. Like you said, the best time to visit the galley is when crew is not engaged with preparing or serving food, or with setting up or closing up.

I think you can do either. The call button is there for a reason but obviously if it is during a busy period then I would avoid using at that immediate time. Personally, I would just nip to the galley, as Chuck has said, it is nice to stretch your legs and it probably just makes it a little easier for the crew and also can avoid everyone around you suddenly requesting drinks also.

Or like the Australian guy I was sitting next to on a flight back from Madrid, he was using it regularly on an empty flight, treating the CC similar to a waitress service. As he was flying from Madrid to Melbourne via London, he probably would have been better to exercise his legs !

I do prefer going to the galley to ask for a drink but since I got a light hearted b********* for not using my call button a couple of flights back[:I][:D]

Even when travelling in UC, I prefer to get up and go to the bar or the galley - it's good to stretch your legs a bit.

I suppose it also depends which IFE system your aircraft has - if you're on the Nova / Odyssey loop systems, then the call button may be used more, as people will not want to miss bits of the IFE. On v-port, then there is no excuse, as you can stop and start the IFE.

Depends also what class you fly, I find I have never needed to use the call button when in UC with crew often checking the cabin and making sure everyone has drinks etc.

But always nice to get up and have a drink at the bar to stretch your legs [:I]

If only i had the pleasure of upper class....
Its good to get an opinion from everyone, thanks.
Im with the stretch your legs option too tho on a Vegas flight the crew do seem overwhelmed at times.
Its allways a lot quieter on the way home though.

I would previously have strongly agreed, however with recent crew cuts in UC I have found that the intervals between CC walking the aisles can get long, consequently I have been tempted to use the call button.

i think it depends how quickly your drinking! if your aiming for a drink every half hr then it might be nice to pop to the galley. if its only once or twice during a flight.... well thats what the button is there for! (well amongst other things)
