We'd originally booked to fly PE out (day flight) and UC back (night flight) however the recession (presumably) meant that a few months ago I'd been able to upgrade the outward leg to UC for the princely sum of only 9 each!
We arrived at Heathrow courtesy of our local limo company. I'd read the V-Flyer emails about the experiments in letting non virgin limos in to the UC dropoff, but was told that the 'experiment' was closed today (27th June) due to 'security problems (?)
So we arrived outside T3, grabbed two trollies, and headed for the UC desk. Within a minute we were escorted to the magic lift, and arrived at the virgin check in. My gold status was acknowledged, and it took only two minutes to check our mountain of luggage (we were going scuba diving, and the spare kitchen sink is needed) and we were through the security channel in a couple of minutes. Off to the lounge - Eggs Benedict as usual, And time for my haircut. After that we were preparing to board, and told that there was a MINOR technical problem with our plane. We were told that we'd be 70 minutes late departing. This developed into only 40, during which time I'd sampled the 'Readhead' cocktail - interesting!

The clubhouse now was nearly empty - our flight was called and we went to the gate. My suite was worn but perfectly serviceable. Shorlty after takeoff, the FSM came round, introduced herself, and acknowledged my gold status. The food was excellent, and I had to keep turning down refill opportunities for drinks.

When I thought about wanting to sleep, the CC read my mind, and asked whether I wanted to have my seat converted to the bed. I then slept for several hours (it had been an early start). I woke 90 minutes before landing, had a cup of tea (and the victoria sponge!)

Landing was smooth, and the FSM wished me a good trip onwards. Overall one of the best VS flights I've ever taken.

Dulles was then a zoo - 40 minutes through immigration, to only then find that our luggage had been offloaded from the belt and scattered around the belt area. Then a 30 minute line to hand over the customs declaration. Not one of the best entries into the US, but not Virgin's fault....

Thanks for the interesting TR, pity about the UC drop off being unavailable but 9 for an upgrade to UC is a result . Good to hear the flight was so good and the CC made you feel welcome. It's been a while since I read positive feedback about the food so maybe things are improving at last.

Enjoy the diving.

Thanks for the report, I have been watching VS21 over the last couple of weeks and its been on schedule virtually every day we are flying out in July on VS21 with quite a tight connection down to Orlando, I noted the delay yesterday also.

But on the subject of upgrades, we were due to fly out PE and back PE all on miles, it was impossible to get reward flights direct to MCO during school holidays I made a phone call and got an upgrade on the way out for two adults two kids and one infant for 52,000 miles + 16.00 this will be my / our first experience of UC hopefully the kids will win over the other passengers in the cabin !!!!!!!!

Nice TR. Glad everything went well and it ticked all the boxes. [y]

IAD immigration is a zoo, not helped by the stupid mobile lounges. I have been over an hour getting through and on the one occasion I was fast-tracked through there to make a connection, I then had to wait 40 minutes for the luggage.

Peter,
Thank you for your good report. It is reassuring to see more of these summaries coming out with unprompted positive comments. It's too bad we could not have made your entry into our country a bit less frantic; better luck next time.

Enjoy your holiday. We look forward to your homeward bound TR.

Absolutely hate the mobile lounges, even so when you've come off a full flight and they jam you in like sardines. The aroma is delightful.[n]

Oh... The luggage by the belt is to be a service to Upper Class passengers.

Thanks for the TR[y]

Your paid upgrade only goes to show 'If you don't ask....'[:D][:D]

At least the technical delay had a silver lining for you[}:)]

We were on that flight too. TR to come but not today as we've only just got back and feeling a bit cream crackered.

[y] Great TR, how lucky!!! WHat a fantastic upgrade price, IAD always seems to like putting luggage on the floor IMHO its not as big as it should be for the amount of flights it serves. Glad to hear a very positive report for UPPER hope this is how it continues.
