UC Newbie + HKG Clubhouse questions! Thanks all!

Hi all,

I finally booked my first UC ticket from HKG to SYD!! Very excited! But as a UC 'Virgin' I just have a few queries for the more experienced UC travellers out there.

1) Whats the best seat for privacy on the A346? I am currently booked in 11A and want to avoid the bassinet position if possible (is it in 8D?)

2) What can I expect in UC? Can I have multiple meals at any time and does the menu change at different times throughout the flight? Can you get cappucinos etc?

3) Regarding the HKG Clubhouse, what is there to do and how long should I spend there to enjoy everything (I'm boarding the plane at HKG and not transferring from the LHR flight so I'll have plenty of time)?
Do you have to tip the staff? Will there be a boarding call from the Clubhouse? Also, I've heard that you can pre-book treatments, but is this only available at the LHR Clubhouse and not at HKG? What kind of treatments are there in HKG (I heard there's no haircuts unlike at LHR?)

4) As I look pretty young, will the staff give me a hassle or not treat me as good as they treat a normal UC passenger?

Sorry for all the questions... It'll be my first experience in UC and I probably won't get to experience it again for a while, so would like to make the most of it if possible.

1) I think the right hand side of the plane offers more privacy, so you might want to switch seats. Although landing at Sydney the left hand side got a good view of the Harbour Bridge / Opera House etc.
2) Not sure you can have multiple meals at any time, you can delay your meal somewhat, but the menu is what the menu is. Never heard of anyone getting a cappuciino.
3) Nothing to do other that eat, drink, watch tv, play video games, read or have a shower. I think you'll have around 90 minutes, as long as you get a move on when you get off the LHR plane. The lounge is right by the gate. You can order as much as you like, although if you plan on getting bladdered, you may not be allowed back on the plane. I did n't see any treatments at HKG, and in my experience, they are only available at LHR, LGW + Revivals.
4) Not sure if they discriminate regarding age, i very much doubt it, they looked after us very well on both visits. I like the HKG lounge a lot !

I was a very regular single traveller on both Concorde and BA First in my teens and ealry twenties and was treated without any sort of discrimination adn in the proffesional way I expected at that time

11A is a good seat as it faces the wall so it is very private (just like seats 2K-7K on the right hand side). Also you should get the views of Sydney Harbour if you sit on the left.

Cappuccinos certainly do exist - and we make a lot of them as they are very popular.

1) 11A is facing the wall so you will have privacy and will be away from the bassinet position

2) There should be a meal on departure and breakfast on arrival but you are free to eat whensoever you wish. I think cappuccinos are available

3) There are no treatments available at HKG - only at LHR and LGW. As you are not transferring from the LHR flight a couple of hours should be sufficient. If you want a shower you may prefer to arrive before the LHR flight gets in as people who are continuing on to SYD from that flight may well be queueing up for showers.

4) We were there on 2006 with my 17 year old son and he was treated with nothing but courtesy.

Just to second honey lamb's comment - all the CHs are used to younger travellers. My daughter (who's now nearly 17) has never had any problems in any of them. The staff at the HKG CH are very helpful. Enjoy.

I am flying back from Sydney to Heathrow via Hong Kong today. Theres not that much to do in HK Clubhouse, its not like Heathrow, so I wouldnt plan on arriving hours before your flight.
I would say 2 hours is sufficient, have a few drinks, something to eat.
The Clubhouse is just upstairs by the boarding gates, and they will announce when boarding is starting.

I don't drink tea or coffee, but now I know they do cappuccinos.

Shame about the HKG Clubhouse not having any treatments... was looking forward to that!

Does anyone know if there is a fast-track through immigration and security in Sydney for Upper Class passengers? Do I need to get a pass off the staff before I disembark the plane?
