Fairly quiet in the clubhouse. Well, we were there 4 hours in advance of our flights. Haircut for the lady and facial for myself - I do love a good eyebrow tweak!
Champagne was in plentiful supply at the bar. Service for food in the dining area was a little off this time; especially for it being quiet. Being ever so classy, I asked for my duck with mash instead of the barley stuff it came with - my request duly acknowledged and then denied on delivery of the food. Ah well; more champers to wash it down with.
Time flew past in the nicest place at LHR, and boarding was called. No premium line to mention, but it wasn't busy by the time we rocked up. Seats directed to on the wrong side of the aircraft; but luckily I knew where we were going!
The purple leather PE seats are excellent and seem to be wearing well with the exception of the armrests where the tables are stowed. My only gripe with the PE seats is that as soon as the person in front reclines (which they are welcome to do so!), the screen becomes unviewable.. Being full of champagne I drifted into a happy daze until the food was served. Wine not so great on-board, but fairly impressed with the food choices - the seafood linguine was excellent - plenty of taste and actual pieces of tender scallop - NYOM! The rest of the flight went without comment except for the wonderful crew member that served me a Bailey's without ice - glass of... Good night Vienna!
I awoke just before my liver malfunctioned and drank the bottle of tepid water provided in PE as we began our descent into JFK. JFK Immigration gave its usual rude and obnoxious entrance to the US. As I handed over my completed docs, the 'officer' decided to have a lengthy chat with his superior about overtime arrangements... time passes and beard grown, I'm stamped up (number 14 in this passport!) and my luggage is already on the carosel.
Super quick taxi ride into Midtown, though I noticed he was doing it off clock so made sure to pay by Amex which he eventually acquiesced to - gotta make sure Mr Bloomberg gets his taxes (extra 50 cents per ride from this month!) and checked into the W on Lexington on a ludicrously good nightly rate ($90 plus SPG points) for a fantastic weekend to begin!
