Hello All

I found out this afternoon that I'm required in Maidenhead for an interview ahead of a possible placement as part of my university degree (currently in my second year). This is taking place next Wednesday morning, but as I have to travel to/from Lancaster and thinking that taking the first train in the morning will be cutting it very fine, I intend to come down Tuesday and stop over for the night.

Could anyone possibly recommend any good hotels at a reasonable price and, preferably, close to Maidenhead railway station? Nothing fancy, just need somewhere to sleep for the night and have dinner/breakfast, although as of yet I'm still awaiting details whereabouts in Maidenhead the interview is.

And before anyone asks, I note that the Thames Hotel in Maidenhead has been the venue of choice for previous V-Flyer events. [;)]

I may also need to stop over in the same hotel a week or so later, should I be invited to come along for an assessment centre for another firm in the Maidenhead area.

Thames Hotel [:?]

It's not a bad hotel but for socials, it was handy and the breakfast was very good (for those up early enough..!)

Bazz?

To be honest, that's all I'm pretty much looking for. I found out where the office is where I've got to go, and the Thames Hotel is on the other side of town. I did look into the Thames though as that was the first hotel that came to mind from here.

Just a bit torn at the moment whether to go for this one or the Walton Cottage Hotel as the rates do seem to be similar, with the latter looking more favourable at the minute due to being closer to where I need to go.

My advice would be to take the one nearer to where you need to go. You are in an unfamiliar place and don't know things like how busy the traffic will be at various times of the day. It's stressful enough going for student placements in this current climate (as well I know as a mother of someone who has had difficulty in accessing a placement due to the various companies cutting back on placements) without putting extra pressure on yourself. If you arrive at the interview flustered because of the traffic or (God forbid) late, it doesn't give a good first impression.

Make it easy on yourself and go for the Walton Cottage Hotel if it is the nearer. Oh and the best of luck

HL I know exactly what you mean, and you're spot on with work placements too. My uni believes that placement opportunities have stayed the same with the graduate jobs being the ones cut back, but I don't exactly believe this as each company is different. Not to mention with companies taking one another over all the time, priorities change faster than the wind.

Walton Cottage is looking favourable, however I was alerted today that there are 6 others from my course heading for interviews that day as well plus myself (9 of us in total but 2 are currently on exchange in Canada) and that our Placements Officer will be holding a meeting before the end of the week to discuss this. It is preferred that we all travel down and stay together, so we may end up somewhere completely different.
