On my way back from JFK in March, I bought the model of Cosmic girl and a Passport holder. Total cost, approx £30. And I was told that they 'no longer gave flying club miles' when I handed over my flying club card while making payment.

Anyone else heard this before? Have I missed something somewhere?

I know I didn't miss out on a huge load of miles, but it is annoying.

Err have they ever done this?

I know you get miles if you pre-order (min £20). As you can guess I used pre-order quite a lot.

Got to the point where I was writing notes on the top of my order form to the lady who was processing the orders (I had spoken to her on a number occasions) - boy did I get some strange looks from the crews...

Thanks,
Richard

FC members can only earn miles when pre-ordering by phone whilst in the UK - this does not include orders placed onboard out-bound flights for pick-up on return flights.

The only way to get FC miles is to place 2 seperate phone orders (over £20) before you fly for both legs on your journey.

Does seem strange though as most other airlines do reward frequent flyer miles for onboard duty free purchases and last time I flew there was a space on the on-board pre-order form for a FC number [?]

Err - I have never ordered in advance by phone. I always order on my outbound sector and picked up on the return. This qualifies for the poitns and free gift if you spend over £60. No contention on this, inside page of frotn cover states that FC members earn 10 points per £ (min £20 spend).

Richard

On my last flight (Feb 04) I was told by the cabin crew that the machine they use on board doesn't have the capability of storing the FC details, so keep the receipt and send it in and the miles would be credited. Unfortunately I lost the receipt somewhere so wasn't able to test it out.

I did a pre-order on board my flight to SFO last November, to be picked up on my return flight from LAX two weeks later. I received all the items I ordered and about 5 weeks later the bonus miles showed up on my FC account.

I just made sure I filled in my account number on the pre- order form.

Wife ordered some preorder on an outbound SFO flight last year to be collected on inbound 3 days latter. The object was to get the free gift deliphant for our daughter.I do not quite know what happened but we ended up with every free gift going clock, passport holder & the deliphant.I thought she had spent about £500 in a drunken stupor. When the credit card bill came it was for £30ish.The miles showed up also.

I remember asking for something free (cannot for the life of me remember what it was) and ended up getting a disposable camera of all things!

Graham

IIRC, you only get FC miles on duty free purchases if you pre-order over the value of £20. Those miles credit the month after the flight that you pick the pre-order up on (i.e. Last week, 250 miles went on for the £25.00 worth of pre-order I picked up on my way over to the US - still got £31.50's worth to add on next month :))

Cheers
