after booking my lgw=mco flight through vh i decided that i too should get a virgin card already have 3k points and with no large purchases just everyday groceries and the odd weekend break etc.
i must admit that i did too wonder how rich you regulars must be but dare not ask!
i have booked uc and it cost £1700 extra to the package for each adult and £1139 for the child, return which i thought was quite reasonable flights are out mid nov return mid dec does this sound a good deal to you experts ?
i cannot find a way of getting any ff miles for the child ticket do you guys know a way ?
personally i worked it out that if we paid for 2 flights like this with all the miles we earn , only red, and a few extra from the credit card we should get a third one uc class upgrade from econ free sounds a good deal .
nick asked about paying council tax on c/c well i live in nearby broxtowe and we cannot pay by c/c here .

Called MBNA today to cancel an old MBNA Silver card which I have had for years but never used and they suggested they move my credit limit across from this card to my new Virgin card (when it arrives). They were really on the ball, the guy said he will transfer it in a few days when I get the card and call me to confirm its been done. It restored some of my faith in MBNA.
I have only ever flown economy [:(] Oh well I have something to work towards!

The only way I have found is to be FC gold this has the provision for a childrens account.The childs miles then go directly into the linked gold account.It is very frustrating shelling out for childrens upgrades and not getting the miles this was my case also for many years.
Nick, Ashfield council have accepted credit cards this year its only been debit cards before.
Update.... Got a phone call from MBNA to say my card will be with me in 7-10 days. Good thing I am not in a hurry, its taking agessssss.

A quick call to MBNA then virginmoney and it was fixed. Would recommend you make the call anyway to double check.

1 x AMEX MR point = 1 x VS FC mile.
AMEX did a special VS offer on the Gold Charge Card a little while ago - 5000 MR points on approval, 2 x MR points for each 1GBP spent, and 4 x MR points for each 1GBP spent with VS directly. Unfortunately I don't think it's running any more [:(]

As an alternative, may i propose the BMI credit card which you can sign up for at http://www.flybmi.com
It's also run by MBNA, but offers 1.5 miles per pound spent, 3 miles per pound spent on flights via the website, and most strikingly of all, offers 20000 bonus destinations miles when you sign up. That's right - 20 thousand!
Bear in mind you can spend BMI miles on Virgin flights - it costs more miles but not 1.5 times as many. For example, Vegas return in UC is 80k Virgin miles, 100k BMI miles. Many people will have a BMI card through the recent status match promotion, and if not, they supply a FF card when you sign up for the credit card.
This won't suit everyone. The main disadvantage for those wanting to build status with Virgin is that they will have two FF programs with miles split between them. But, if you do a lot of flying to other destinations, BMI is a good FF card to have anyway, because it's Star Alliance and has low thresholds for Silver and Gold.

Next anecdote from me ('cos it's a typical one). I was in Boston, had business in the west of the State, but fancied spending the weekend in the city. An ex-pat I've known for a while calls out of the blue and suggests we get together. When we meet in the bar, he's also got his girlfriend and another friend in tow. I fancy Italian food, it's Saturday night, there's four of us and we don't have reservations. My friend laughs.
Those in the know will realise the best Italian food in Boston is in North End. Unless you've got a reservation on a Saturday night, forget it.

Do you use the UK number for that or the US? I tend to use the UK I must admit... like when I checked into the WoodCliff Hilton and they couldn't trace my booking. Called Amex in the UK (02:00 GMT) and within a few minutes they'd worked out the problems and sorted them.
Next anecdote. A wild and stormy friday night in Glasgow. bmi have helpfully lost my booking on the (full) last flight to LHR and there is no capacity on BA (and even swearing and doing my well known exploding kettle impersonation didn't help).
Within 10 mins Centurion had come up with a range of options including hotels, early morning flights and the sleeper from Glasgow to Euston with a car the other end. As it was I managed to get stand-by on the bmi flight, but Centurion were amazingly helpful in providing a safety net.

Only being a lowly Amex Gold, I don't know if the Centurion UK number actually gets through to an office in the UK - I know the number I dial (a UK number) gets me through to "Steve" and "Brenda" et al in Bangalore or wherever it is. If you ring that with anything more than the most basic of queries, it's soooooo frustrating [:(!]
