Driving Directions & Maps

Can anyone recommend any website's or maps to buy, that have good driving directions for driving to/from the attractions in Orlando and also around Florida's Gulf Coast

Hmm I've always used the free ones you get with the car hire!

Still I've been to Florida so many times I guess I dont need maps!

Seriously though most attractions are clearly signed as are the roads to the Gulf Coast!

Like Jonathan says, I usually use the ones that come with the car hire - though Mapblast is quite a good site for directions

getting to St petes from Orlando is pretty straight forward (I4 West, I275 South, Pinelas Bay way - toll, Gulf Blvd and takes about 2hrs) as others have said this is well signposted.

Going out to St Petes in the near future, will pick up some local guides and post them to you on my return;)

When I moved to the US the driving directions were quite hard. Even though they are in English and very easy now to understand, when you are used to roadsigns from the UK the US ones can be misleading.

I found maps.msn.com to be the best over here for accuracy.

If you are taking a laptop (which we usually do and attach a GPS reciever) then Delorme's Map'n'Go is pretty good. We also have MS Streets & Trips.

Otherwise tourist office/car hire maps aren't bad but may lack some detail.

As already stated above, most of the attractions are pretty well signposted. I guess that the important thing to remember about directions in US is that the street name above the junction is the name of the raosd that you are crossing, not the one that you are on.

If you have a laptop / Pocket PC I seem to recall MS Streets & Trips isn't too expensive either.

The things I forgot to remember when I was driving around Orlando, if you drive off a freeway / interstate type thing on a slip road you probably can't get back on - they aren't like ours when you can go up and back down.

Also you can turn one right([?]) on a red-light at a crossing if their are no pedestrians crossing - they have right of way. Unless there is a "No turn on red light" sign.

I had a horrible experience as a navigator going from BOS to Vermont. We managed to get on the interstate them come straight back off it somehow. I took us about an hour of driving round Boston to find how to get back to the on slip road (not helped by the fact that everyone we asked for directions wasn't a car owner.)

Sounds very much like our Experience trying to get to The Animal Kingdom from International Drive, we even found two toll booths!

I was really impressed with myself the whole holiday - didn't drive on the wrong side once. Until I turned off one junction to early taking the car back to Hertz ... the bus coming towards me was a tad confusing for a few moments!

The best website I've found is freetrip.com which I've used on several occasions and has mostly been pretty accurate.

Microsoft Streets & Trips is the US version of Microsoft Autoroute - its very good and is compatible with GPS receivers.

Alternatively, the other Microsoft solution online is http://mappoint.msn.com for the US, (http://mappoint.msn.co.uk for the UK)
