All up to the decision of the EU, and whether they bless the deal the British have done with Hong Kong. Virgin get fifth freedom rights (the ability to fly on from Hong Kong to Sydney with passengers), if Cathay Pacific get the same from LHR - New York. Some other airlines (British Midland in particular) are opposed to this, so it's not clear cut yet.

Virgin are still actively pushing for a September kick off, though nothing is certain.

Crew on my last flight didnt think there was much chance of the flights starting to SYD in September.Lets just cross are fingers.

The Wall Street Journal reports that "Virgin Atlantic's long-awaited arrival in Sydney is being held up by red tape in Hong Kong" The article carries a quote from Virgin saying "we still have not had the last element of approval from the Hong Kong government."
