My partner and I are considering going to South Africa early next year. As we've travelled UC to New York twice before I would just default to booking VS but looking at the planes on offer on the route I'm no longer too sure..... the last time we flew to JFK it was on a 340-300 ( came back on A340-600 - bliss ) and the 300 seems to be the only type in use to CPT.

I'm questioning if it is worth flying UC - or Virgin for that matter. The BA alternative(s) are within £10-20 of Virgin's price. If it's going to be rubbish ( and old ) interiors ( will they get the Suites before end of year? If at all? ) and IFE then it seeds the doubt in my mind - is there any news on when / if these are due to be updated / replaced?

Thanks,

David.

Im sure it is still worth booking with Virgin if you are hardcore VS fans. The 343's may not be the brand new novelty of the Virgin fleet but they are still a safe and comfortable way to get from A to B and the Upper Class cabin and service should still be impeccable.

Just my take on it.

Last winter a mix of A346's and A343's did the CPT route.

maybe you should wait till later in the year to book, then you will know which aircraft will be flying.

I've done the A343 in Upper class with Arcadia ("worst" mix in the VS fleet!) and still loved it - maybe I am just easily pleased [:p]

Or fly via JNB on a 744 with UCS.

By then the D and G seats should have the partition so couples can get closer!!!!

PLus Jo burg is a night flight so make use of the bed, that day flight from CPT can be really long and boring on the Airbus!!

If CPT goes on the A340-600 you should get suites but not if u end up on the A343....
