Just a query about Caribbean reward mile amounts. They seem to be 100,000 for a return flight whilst West Coast US is only 80,000. Given that the UC service to the Caribbean is of the B&S variety AND that UC flights are cheaper to the Caribbean that the West Coast would anybody like to speculate on reasons for this? Obvious ones include

More availability in Caribbean UC so increased likelihood of dates being available.

Most people earning reward miles do it on Business flights and are unlikely to want to spend more time in "business locations" so a premium can be charged for non business locations.

errmmmm... over to you :D

Not sure of the answer to this but that is why I choose SFO for my recent reward Upper Class flight - you're are likely to get UCS for the same 80,000 miles too (78,000 if booked online) + all the LHR extras. I visited LAS but still flew back home via SFO.

I don't know what the 'official' line is on this one Decker but to my mind there are anomalies in the Reward pricing structure, i.e. for all UC flights to/from the US the charge is 80k but for PE it you go to the north east it is 50k but Florida, LAS and the west coast are 62.5k. Why the difference in PE but not UC?

I also think that 80k for LAX or SFO is good but 62.5k for PE is v. expensive by comparison, when you look at the difference in the real cost if you were buying the seat.

The rate to the US used to be 100,000 miles -- it was reduced to stimulate the US travel market I guess. Hey, I'm not complaining... but it does seem a little inequitable to have "paid" 200,000 miles earlier in the year for ANU and only 156,000 for SFO in a few months. :)
