After reading a number of trip reports (which I enjoy doing - puts me in a good mood for my trip... :D ), I have a question about afternoon tea.

I notice that a number of trip reports talk about "afternoon tea" before arrival at Eastbound destinations. I haven't flown UC Eastbound for about 18 months, but my memories of it involve just ordering from the freedom menu before arrival (things like soup, and cheese & crackers etc...).

So do people tend not to order from the freedom menu before landing and have "afternoon tea" instead? Or am I getting confused - is it that the people writing the trip reports just happen to be ordering "afternoon tea" off of the freedom menu?

I suspect this might be a legacy from non VS, pre-freedom and non J-class travel.

On day time flights, you usually get one big meal and a snack. Depending on the time of the flight, the snack is either breakfast or afternoon tea. Casting my mind back to the last time I flew VS3, the menu offered afternoon tea, which was sandwiches and a scone, I think as one of the light bites. A few years ago, flying CO on a code share out of LGW, the FA had to explain to an American passenger what afternoon tea is, and in particular what a scone is.
