I'd definately expect this, together with some tie in with Virgin Blue to match/beat the BA/QF Kangaroo pass. Possibly also VS codeshare on VirinBlue (DJ had a codeshare with UA IIRC)?

I'm all fidgity and really want to go now. Must do it UCS, although my first lot of miles (cos' I'll doubt I'll pay for UCS) will burn a hole in my pocket before then, so will have to save them all over again.

Great news though. Upper class all the way to SYD - that with CH and revivals will be over a whole day of unashamed luxury.

Guess they're going to sort out a CH in SYD.

As on most routes the IATA airlines all cost the same
its the availability that causes a price difference.

Just had a look on the BA web site (please forgive me) and entered some return flight details from LHR - SYD in early Jan 2005 to get a rough idea of fares:

Discounted J class (UCS) = £3349
Discounted W class (PE) = £1849
Discounted Y class (econ)= £929

Same dats but booking on the Qantas web site are slightly more expensive.

Paper today stating it should cost around £750 in December, but cheaper in the new year!

I think the SYD route could be a real challenge for VS. Transatlantic flights VS are head and shoulders above the competition in PE, J-class and service. There is a clear USP.

When you head out to the east things get a bit tougher. Emirates, Singapore, Cathay, they all pride themselves on their service. I think J with any of these is significantly closer to UC than with any of the transatlantics. They also have very loyal FFs.

I'm sure VS will have a few tricks up their sleeves, but it's going to be interesting.
