I got to the airport early. In fact so early that the first 744 to London had not left yet. I enquired about changing my ticket but it was discounted premium economy and they declined to let me get the earlier flight.

So I went over the road from Terminal 2 to the 'Encounter' restaurant which looks like a War of the Worlds tripod spaechip in the centre of the terminal. There I enjoyed an expensive lunch of Calamari and Penne Pasta and whiled away the afternoon until 5pm the earliest the check in opened for my Airbus flight VS0024. I would recommend it only once and only if you are stuck in LAX. The food wasnt too special and it was expensive. The view was good though. If you like runways :-)

5pm came and I wandered back. Man what a queue. But I walked right past it to the check in. 'Sir you need to go through security'. said the security person. 'I already did - look heres my security stamp' I replied showing the stamp I had from queueing for the fruitless ticket change earlier. 'OK your'e all set' Seh said and waved me through. Consequently I was first to check in. No operational upgrade today - 2 free seats in W according to expertflyer and 7 free seats in J. So no need to bump me I guess. One day my time will come...

No clubhous so as Im in premium I have to slope off to the Northwest Lounge on the Mezzanine level of the terminal. Its very nice. Good selection of Fetzer red and white wines and beer all free, Cheese and Carrots and pretzel snacks also. Plenty of working cubes and nice chairs to sit on. I do some work for a couple of hours and drink some Fetzer.

Boarding is painless. Separate desk for Premium (hello Heathrow why oh why cant you figure this out!) nice big glass of orange juice at the seat and no seat beside me. Its dawned on me that the seat beside me is often empty. I think it must be a hidden flying club silver benefit if space is available. Its a nice thing to have! It means i can use the middle seats power and not have it dig into my leg.

The departure seems like a long run down the runway before we are airborne and with that at 9pm PST I put my headphones on and my eye mask and recline to sleep.

Although I remember moving periodically because the seat is a little bit too sweaty I dont wake until breakfast. Ive slept for something like 7 hours which is perfect!

Breakfast is welcome. The Otis Spunkmeyer muffin is better than the croissant which looks extremely articifial. Coffee is good.

I read the rest of my book and soon we land and Im first off after the 'J's. It takes what seems like ages for the luggage to arrive at T3 but soon Im on the tube and away...

Very nice trip really. I like it when I can sleep that much.
