Flying for the first time on A340-600 Madam Butterfly, I was looking forward to it. What a fantastic aircraft. The fittings inside were really nice, polished aluminium look on the storage bin handles, aircon nozzles and window blinds; made for a very classy looking interior.
Flight was the 7.20am departure and we only had 91 passengers on board, so it meant we could pick and choose where we sat after take off. I took a twin seat and put the middle arm up for extra room and settled back.
As you can imagine the service was excellent - the breakfast was one of the most tasty and plentigul I have had in a long time (2 sausages, scrambled egg, mushrooms, fried potatoes, plus a muffin, bowl of fruit and a yoghurt!) Drinks service seemed to be never ending with tea, coffee, orange juice and water available almost on tap. The only downside was the afternoon tea, which was literally a cup of tea and a dairy milk bar. Still - there you go.
We were way ahead of schedule but a thunderstorm had parked itself over Heathrow so we were held over Birmingham for about half an hour where the view was amazing between the huge towers of cumulus clouds dark in the middle, backlit by the sun - I wax lyrical but it was treuly stunning. Landing was fine and through immigration in no time. Bags arrived nice and prompt - all in all a perfect flight.
I made Ag level on the way over to JFK and was impressed to find my card and pack waiting for me when I arrived home 5 days later!
