It is a VS advertising slogan - a dig at the 777 that only has two engines where all of the VS planes have four.

There has been speculation on this and other forums (fora) that VS will never buy 777s because of this slogan, which is painted on the side of quite a few planes.

on the virgin airbuses (and the orginal airbus house liveries I think) the slogan "4 engines 4 long haul" is sometimes used (an attack on the popular use of twin engined widebodies throughout the british longhaul travel industry)

Might be on some of the 747s as well.

I think at this point it is important to point out that the 4engines4longhaul slogan originates from airbus, and although virgin display them, it is not them as an airline having a dig at other popular twin engined aircraft/operators.

I believe we will see VS777's soon, and this slogan will not stand in the way of any deal!! If boeings price is right i cannot see virgin turning around and rejecting the offer because of some "stickers" on the side of their current fleet.

Any creative people out there?? Im sure there are some slogans that would fit the 777's quite well....2-big-1's!!!

I can't really see any reason for them to do it - VS is a huge brand, why would you want to change it i can't see any advantage it would bring.

I would be really disappointed if when i flew out of LGW i was on a Virgin Sun or something similar - i wouldn't bother trailing down from MAN for it.

I normally fly out of LHR anyway but still the odd VH i go on to the Carib i would want to be on a VS branded aircraft - even if the interior and service were exactly the same.

Can't see a re-branding being done just because of a borrowed slogan - the 4 engines slogan is old and tired now and most people are bored by it.

Brand waterdown = service waterdown

VAA want to expand, by changing the name of the LGW operation would shrink the airline, and may even cost them.

I think this is just a ROMOUR and VA will get 773! in VA colours!

personally unless there is a good tax reason for it i cant see SRB diluting his
"dream"
i mean he gave up his beloved music buisness to safeguard vs i cant see him messing with it now

Hopefully this will just be a rumour and nothing more

We all fly VS and like the product or wouldn't be on this forum

Virgin Holidays sell PE and UC as an extra bit of luxury for your trip

I cant see people paying £600 for an UCS on virgin sun or whatever it might be called!

Maybe they want to set up a cheaper charter brand to compete with TC and other tour operators own airlines?

VS really need a european short haul partner not a bucket and spade rebrand for the LGW routes

The VS barnd is so strong I really cant see why they would want to change it?

i can agree with you that vs need a good european brand and i can understand if they
launched a different name i mean atlantic would seem strange flying
to spain

Agree with the comments that it doesn't make sense to dilute one of the strongest, and most respected, brands in the world.

Would there be any legal issues over re-using the Virgin Sun name, i.e. does Virgin still 'own' it?

Also does anyone know when the annoucement over new planes is due?

OK, here's how I think VS will expand:

there'll be quite a few 773s ordered (this going on the intent that virign want to have a mix of both boeing and airbus) some will go to LGW in a holiday configuration, as will some to MCO in a holiday config (replace the 742s), some will go to LHR in a more business config and will help develop some more routes, e.g. asian and NA business centers.

How I want VS to expand:

move the entire flee up to NCL, and expand NCL along with the new a/c :D;)

if weare talking adding new airports to the vs range i thi9nk that the new
Nottingham East Midlands right in the middle of the country would be a good base
(this really has nothingto do with the fact that i live just 10 mins from the airport)

The four engines for long haul may be an Airbus slogan but I remember when Virgin made the newspapers (I think the Daily Mail at least) letting the public know that it used four engine a/c while its competitors used two engine a/c. The press grabbed onto this and it caused a bit of a stink with the 'scare tactics' acusation from BA.

ahh the good old daily mail

100% old fashioned unbiased fair and decent reporting.

orrrr not.

I do remember an advert in the Daily mail a few year ago, big one page ad, saying that all our a/c have 4 engines. Can't remember any outcry over it.

Virgin has actually used it for an advertising slogan... I saw it on a Virgin poster at LHR while passing through security back in Jan of 2003
