Flying into MCO VS27 and have booked into the Hyatt which i understand is over the airport. Kids are young and thought we could rest after the flight and our apartment is not avail till following day. Here is the question re car hire...Should i book the car to be picked up in the evening or are they open v v early in the morning say 0500? with the time difference we should be up and raring to go at that time in the morning.

Hi

I have stayed at the MCO Hyatt a couple of times and really like it (although it is a bit "different" to a resort hotel). It is right over the terminal - you get into a lift in the terminal building and the upper floors are all the hotel. Both times we have had atrium rooms - the window overlooks the inside of the terminal: a bit wierd (and dark with no lights on), but interesting and great to people watch. There are rooms with normal windows, but we have never had one...

Rooms are nicely furnished and clean - I like them (and am a fussy person...).

There are a couple of resturants and bars there. I really like their casual restaurant, but - if you wanted something quicker and cheaper - it would be very easy to get something from one of the terminal outlets...

There is a small, but nice, pool overlooking the runways - a bit noisy, but different. There is also a small gym.

Personally, I would pick up a car the next morning. Am not sure what the parking facilities are like and why pay for the extra night (unless, of course, you want to get out and explore - in which case I would probably choose a hotel elsewhere in Orlando)?

What time will your apartment be ready? 5am seems a little excessive, but - if that's what you want to do - I would imagine that the hire car agencies are open for business that early and would allow you to pick up early. If I was you, I would go pick up the car myself (the hotel reception will tell you where to get the shuttle bus to collect your hire car - since the hotel is in the terminal, this wont take long or be much hassle), then go back and collect your young family and luggage.

I think that the airport Hyatt is a good choice for a first night. http://orlandoairport.hyatt.com/property/index.jhtml

Thanx for that info. Not fixed any car hire yet so will do soon, the 05:00 start is because in my experience of taking the family to the usa we are all up wandering around at that time, thinking its 10:00 uk.

I'd probably be tempted to book it for the morning around 7/8am even if they are open 24hrs. If you get up at 5am, that gives you enough time to take a leisurely brekkie and freshen up nicely :)

Cheers

Hi,

I have arrived at MCO at about 2am before (due to terrible delays!)
and the carhire place I had booked with was still open and so were the others around it. So I think you will be fine!
However I don't think that much else in orlando will be happening at that time in the morning!!

I have always wanted to try out that hotel, you must be lucky!

Hope this helps

I have never been to MCO at 5am, but if it is like other US airports, there will be a LOT of activity at that time. I agree with mcuth though, I would be tempted to chill out on your first morning for an hour or two after your long day the day before and aim to get the car about 8am.

There is the other point that if you collect it at 5am, your 24 hours starts then, so kif you return at say 14:00 on your day of departure you are well into an extra days rental?

Stephen,

As you have not booked your car yet, here is a link to take you to discounted car hire. It is meant for my Villa guests but I'm sure I can let you use it;)

http://www.onlineautorentals.at/keybreeze

Rentals are with Dollar or Alamo which are both airport based so no need for trekking of on a coach to the car hire depot.

Ummm, if the rental company charges only in 24hr periods, then from a cost point of view, picking it up on the evening of arrival, or the morning after would incur the same charge if dropping off at 1400hrs on day of departure. :)

I always use http://www.airline-network.co.uk for car hire in USA.

Every time I shop around on the 'net but they always come up cheapest. And you get to print the voucher off for yourself.

They use Dollar carhire
Virgin Atlantic
