Not sure if this has been asked before, but can anyone tell me what I can expect in the LGW clubhouse such as amenities, food and drinks menus, layout, how do you know when your flight is boarding and is there direct access to the gates from the clubhouse? I understand its only open in the mornings is that correct?

Also, are there any plans to have a clubhouse guide on here?

Many thanks!

Hi,

I've not been to LGW Clubhouse for nearly 3 years, but am there next month so will take some pictures and write a short report. To answer your last question, yes its something we can look at, I know we have details and pictures for the facilities at LHR, MIA, SFO, MCO, JFK, EWR.

Its a very nice Clubhouse, you enter from the upper level of the South Terminal departure lounge and walk down a corridor that houses some other airport lounges.

When you enter via the sliding glass door, the reception desk is in front of you. Straight in front is the lift that will take you downstairs to the walkway that leads you to the boarding gates. To yor right, and behind the reception area wall is the V.Touch facility (you can book in advance), and in the far right corner is the shoeshine facility (awesome, you must pay Jack a visit!). To the left and looking down is the main bar and seating area. There is a walk-thru library/additional quieter seating area just behind the main bar area. Right down the end are 2 room areas that host some games and a TV area.

Let me know if you have anymore questions!

Thanks,
Richard

Just to add to Richards excellent reply, there is a lift from the Club House which takes you down to the departure gate. Annoucements are given to ensure that you turn up at the right time at the gate - ie able to walk straight on board.

That's the theory, although every time I fly ex-LGW there is a queue at the gate; if you are flying UC you need to look out for a titchy sign that allows you to barge in at its head.

I was in the clubhouse a few weeks ago so am fairly current with it!

First of all it opens @7:30 am
It is open until the last outward flight is boarded, currently the last VS flight out of LGW is about 13:00

So thats why the LGW clubhouse is only open mornings!
LHR has evening flights so their clubhouse opens longer hours

to prebook any treatments (I would recommend this as they are often busy) Tel 01293 444 342

You have a breakfast menu - bacon sandwiches are nice!
a choice of teas/coffees, smoothies, juices etc as well as the harder stuff!
all food/drinks are served at your table.

Showers etc are available too - I find them usefull after a haircut to get rid of stray hairs!)

Direct access (via a shuttle train to a satellite terminal for most flights occasionally flights depart off satellite (if this is already full)

Richard's description of the layout was fairly accurate (not bad after 3 yrs)

You must visit jack in the corner as a clubhouse trip isn't complete unless you do that!

Does the lift in the Clubhouse take you down to same place where all the passengers board the shuttle train, if so, does it get crowded and would it be better to leave the clubhouse earlier for the flight?

Also, flying premium economy, do we get priority boarding at LGW as well? I know in the past when flying economy from LGW it has seemed a free for all when boarding the plane no matter what class you are flying.

Yes it does. No advantage in leaving before you are called, to be honest.

Dunno to be honest. There is certainly a separate boarding line for UC but I've never been around to hear them make the call at the gate.

IMHO The service is better in the clubhouse than pre-take off in UC Cabin (as you can eat drink go online watch tv play games etc!)

So I never rush to the gate even though I can pre board

We were on a delayed St lucia flight a couple of years ago and the clubhouse stayed open until 4.30pm for the flights delayed departure. Now that was too long in the clubhouse even for me.

better to be delayed in the Clubhouse than not being in the clubhouse.:D
Did you take advantage of the extra time with more treatments?[8D]

Latest update - due to improvement works the lift and tram are not working. You have to leave via the front door and rejoin the masses and follow the signs to gates 31-38 this leads down stairs to a bus. Then you are taken on a bus tour to the satellite , back up stairs into the terminal building. Not sure how long this is for, but all the access route were just built. I will find out more when I visit next week.

For the guide, the shoe polishing service is available Wednesday to Sunday. With Jack there, Wednesday to Friday and John on Saturaday and Sunday. So don't travel on a Monoday or Tuesday!

Also the UC side check in at the gate worked fine on yesterdays flight VS33.

How did you get to the gate without a boarding card?

Sorry did not mean check in, but boarding at the departure gate as there had been comment earlier about boarding for Upper Class and if there was a special lane. I had already done the drive through check in to miss the crowds in the main hall!
