This is my first trip report & I shall be so boring compared to the interesting, hilarious, amusing & side splitting reports that have gone before me.I love reading them & learn so much.
We arrived in plenty of time for our 11.15am departure for the LHR-Mia in PE. We had checked in on-line the night before without any problems, seamless in fact. We ran off the 5 vouchers but didn't actually use them.
The check-in member of staff didn't even have the courtesy to look at my husband or I whlst she gave us our boarding cards.[V] I do suggest looking at PE check-in compared to OLCI to see which has less of a queue. You can check-in at either even if you have completed OLCI.
We queued for 15mins to get thru security but that is perfectly acceptable.Once thru we had a coffee looking at the departure boards & I chatted to a man who couldn't even see his flight with VA on the board & it was due to take off 30mins after ours. He didn't know about this site so I gave him one of the cards & he was happy as he went to find out where his flight had disappeared to. I wonder what did happen to him?.
We went thru to departures & found a couple of seats & helped ourselves to a paper & some magazines. There was strict control over 'baby-boarding' (as I call it)& priority. We settled ourselves in our seats, 73H & K on Cosmic Girl & were given champagne (LURVLY). We departed a bit late but made it up.
After the crew had started the drinks round I was fiddling with my seat as it appeared to be faulty, it was. As I got up to visit the toilet a crew member was in the galley & I asked for some cloths as the cleaning hadn't been as thorough as it could have been around my seat, crushed pretzels etc. He was most apologetic but it wasn't his fault at all.He came to clean the bits away but I said I would do it, he seemed mortified but I insisted. I did mention that I was having trouble with my seat. He could see what I meant & again apologised, again I said it wasn't personally his fault. He said if I wanted anything at all to let him know. I thought no more about it as all the crew were busy but he returned on numerous occasions to see if we were ok, more drinks etc.
We were given drinks, (I was able to have bubbly), hot towels, more drinks, lunch etc. After lunch during a lull, the FSM came to us & said that she was sorry the seat was faulty, she would enter it in her report & as I was a silver flying member arrange for compensatory miles to be added to my a/c or I could have 25 worth of goods from duty free. I naturally chose the miles. Again she was most apologetic on behalf of the company.
The rest of the flight was fine,I watched Bobby, History Boys & Dream Girls. We landed smoothly, got off quick but got caught in immigration with a previous flight but that's life. Our bags were waiting for us & off we trotted.
I don't know what runway we took off from, which way we took off etc because I'm not good at remembering that type of stuff, sorry.
I would like to say that the crew were excellent[^][^][^] & 2 days after we returned the compensatory miles had been added to my a/c. That is what I call service.[^][^]Well done to VA & their excellent staff.I shall be writing to the crew member who was so dedicated to our well-being.
I shall write about our return flight tomorrow, you won't believe me when I tell you!

Not boring at all and an excellent first TR. Well done! (Oh God, I sound like Teacher [|:)] )

It was good to read of the extra mile the cabin crew went. Why don't you nominate him for a Heroes award?

Thanks for the TR [y]

Those PE seats on the LHR B744's are now clearly past their best and are ready to be replaced. I was on G-VBIG in Jan and several PE seats on the upper deck were also not working properly then as well.

Regards

Excellent, informative TR as others have already said, so many thanks! I like your attitude towards the problems, yes they were not acceptable but as you said it wasn't the crew onboards fault that your seat was broken and you handled yourself very well, rather than screaming and shouting like many others do which would of not changed the situation. Glad to see the FSM was pro-active with the compensation offer.
