After a great weekend in Brooklyn, which will be remembered for brilliant weather, a great night at Shea Stadium watching the Mets and Braves, front row seat for Rent at the Nederland Theatre. Lots of good food and beer, a tour of the Catskills, a bit of shopping and best of all the Redsox sweeping the Yankees in a three game series.
We dropped our car at the Dollar depot and got the Air Train to T4. Check in was painless and we managed to swap from row 71 to the exit row 70 upstairs on a 747. We made our way to the Clubhouse where we settled down with 2 bottles of Brooklyn Brewery Lager and logged into tinternet.
During the stay I had a nice meal of Centre cut pork loin with roasted black plum and polenta, washed down with Ben and Jerrys Ice cream. I had to settle for vanilla, as they had run out of Cookie Dough. I had a wander round the terminal attracting a few scowls at my Redsox polo shirt. I got duty free, then went back up to read and surf the net until the flight was called.
We were called to board quite early and we made our way through security to gate 28. Waiting for us was Mustang Sally. We went straight on board and headed upstairs, where there was a bottle of water, menu cards, the new PE amenity packs and blankets on the seats. We were immediately offered champagne or orange juice. Flight time was announced as 6 hours and 6 minutes, PE and UC are both full, but apparently there are about 100 spare seats down the back.
We pushed back at 7.55pm. The taxi to take off seemed endless and it was almost 8.30pm before wheels up. Once we had levelled out, we were given drinks .
Dinner was a choice of:
Cajun spiced chicken breast served with mashed sweet potato, corn, black beans, red peppers and Cajun sauce.
Saut_ed shrimp and scallops served with sticky rice, buttered vegetables and ginger & onion sauce.
Smoked mozzarella ravioli with marinara sauce served with red & yellow peppers and parmesan cheese.
Sweet was strawberry shortcake with strawberry sauce.
We both had the chicken, which was okay, but nowhere near as spicy as the menu would have us believe.
As soon as we had eaten, I went straight to sleep, and slept soundly and reasonably comfortably until after breakfast had been served, so I cant even say what was on offer, other than there was a muffin wrapper on Daves table.
The weather in the UK was a bit grim and grey but we did get a birds eye tourist tour of Central London over the Dome, London Bridge, and The London Eye etc. etc. before touching down at Heathrow on time at about 7.30am. We had a bit of a wait for a stand and then a bit of a queue in Immigration, finally a very short wait for our bags as they were among the first to appear.
I headed off to Revivals, which was a busy as I have seen it. I managed a bit of a freshen up, a bit of breakfast, a catch up on the internet and a read of the papers. We then reversed the tube / train route from our outbound leg, this rounded off a very enjoyable trip.
