Flying into T1 and out of T3 the following day in a few months time. Any advice as to the best hotel for the night? I'm hoping to make it as easy as possible to get to Virgin check-in. Is the Hilton at T4 too far out of the way?

Not sure about the Hilton at T4 (I never use T4), but all of the hotels on the Bath Road and the area surrounding LHR use the ubiquitous Hotel Hoppa buses for transportation to terminals 1,2 and 3. (£3 single / £5 return - <16s free)

If you look at holidayextras.com you can see who is doing the best deal for you on the date you want to stay.

I like the Park Inn (used to be Le Meridien), I like the Marriott but don't like the Renaissance (purely personal - they over charged me!!)

If you do stay on the Bath Road and are looking for a place to eat or drink - have a look at the report of the recent V-Flyer gathering - we all very much liked the Pheasant, which is tucked away behind the Marriott and the Raddison Edwardian.

Great food and a very pro-VS landlord.

Hi,

I like the Hilton at T4 ( even when flying virgin out of T3).

It is about a five minute walk along the ocverd walkway from the Hilton to T4 then down the lift and along the platofrm to the Train ( every 15 mins and takes 3-4 mins to T1,2,3 where you follow signs to T3 and VS is in the first zone ( zone A) The HEX is free between T123 & T4.

The Hilton can be more expenisve but saves luugging your suitcase on the Hoppa or the free buses ( ie the 111 to Hounslow from the central bus area which is free ot the bath road like the Marriott/Ren/Shearton skyline).

Alternatively take the HEX into Paddington and the Hilton Paddington is just up the escalator)

Regards

Many thanks, gents. Not quite as easy as LGW is it? Hilton looks favourite, like the idea of avoiding those hoppa buses. . .

When ever I am flying from Heathrow I usually stay at the Hilton.

If you are on the executive floor (or have a Hilton gold/platinum card) then you can use the exective lounge that has free drinks and snacks.

I always stay at the Raddison Edwardian on Bath Road it is the best airport hotel I have ever stayed in.£99/£139 a night through holiday extras and that includes 15 days parking.Get a taxi to term 3 though it costs about £6.00 but you dont have to do the tour of the airport first, then get the hoppa back as rad is the first drop off when it picks up from term 3.Only down side no miles for vs.

Anyone stayed in the Heathrow Novotel? Decided to stay at LHR the night before my flight and got a good web deal for it...I'm assuming it's an OK place? (I'm only in it one night, but still!);)

Unlike Nottingham Nick I quite like the Renaissance if you can get a room overlooking the runway - its right next to the perimeter and you can watch the planes landing/taking off on the northern runway right outside your window which is good for getting in the mood for your trip. They did however try to overcharge me too - the rooms have those minibars where as soon as you even think about a cold beer your account gets debited and they tried to charge me for some beverages we had not consumed. Honest.

We've got a room at the Park Inn - formerly Le Meridien - in September which I managed to book using some Moments points before it changed hands and which they are honouring.

Interesting comments about the Hilton - I might try that next time - I always assumed that being at T4 it was not practical for T1/2/3. Chance to get the bonus 1000 virgin miles makes this sound appealing although for value for money, Hilton are very poor compared to the Marriott and Starwood chains in my experience.

I stay at heathrow hotels a lot when flying out - the park and fly deals mean that its not much more than the parking itself and its so much easier and relaxed to stay close by rather than a long stressful drive the morning of a flight - leaving 2 hours of buffer for the M25 in my case!!

I've stayed at Marriott, Renaissance, Sheraton Skyline, Sheraton Heathrow and Raddison. All on Bath Road. I don't mind the Hoppas although they can be a bit unreliable in terms of amount of time to wait. I'm not often in a rush though, so never found them too bad.

Of the above hotels, the best value is Sheraton Heathrow - they do park and fly for 109 for 15 days. The thing I really like though is the fact that they do 7 quid per day for parking on site if you stay a night. This is brilliant if only away for a few days. I think this is as cheap as any of the major long stay car parks. Also, online booking has rooms for 55 quid per night for weekends.

I can recommend the Radisson Edwardian on Bath Road..
I used to get free upgrades to the International or Presidential Suites so im a bit biased!!:D;)

Theres nothing like bubbling in your own jacuzi the night before you fly!

Most of the bath road hotels are fairly decent..I guess its better to pick a chain you use often so you acrue miles etc[8D]

We have got a good park and fly deal at the Sheraton Skyline for December. Anyone any experience of it?

Nick,

I've stayed at Skyline many times. Its reasonably smart but I find it a little over priced and hence tend to use Sheraton Heathrow instead - the rooms are virtually identical, although the Skyline does have more facilities like pool, gym, more bars etc. I think breakfast is usually not in the rate for park ad fly deals.

It is the last stop on the Hotel Hoppa Route - it goes Radisson, Marriott then Skyline then onto the terminals.

One thing to note is that if you are on a park and fly deal, you will almost certainly have you car parked at 'purple parking' and NOT at the hotel. You just hand keys to concierge. When you return, you will have to go to the purple parking car park - I find this a lot more hassle than going back to the hotel car park. Its a shame because several of the hotels on bath road used to have their park and fly deals where the car was left at the hotel but I think they got too busy - it is possible that in winter they may return to this scheme. If leaving your car at Sheraton Skyline they have a daily rate which from memory is very high. This is another reason why I like the Sheraton Heathrow - its only 7pounds/day or 45 for 8 days or 90 for 17 days.

Enjoy

mcjock - many thanks for the insight, as it happens it is all in vain now - other than I will remember your comments for next time.

After I posted the request, the company that I had booked through fhr-net.co.uk emailled me to say that, although I had booked the hotel through their website, there were no room at this hotel and couls I ring them at national rate to get an alternative[:(!][:0]

I rang them, an the upshot is I have told them where to go.

Back to good old holidayextras, they were showing only double room availability at the Radisson on the web - I rang them and they were able to get me the triple room I wanted at the £99 park and fly web rate.

So I am happy again now and, thanks to Chris, I know all about the Radisson. It looks like it will be the Pheasant for a meal again:D:D

Have stayed at the Rennaisance twice and found the rooms and service to be fine. The view of landings on 27R are worth it alone! The first time I stayed there was when me and a mate went to watch the last day of Concorde (hey I know it's BA but come on!). I was well impressed when the Concs took off they set off the car alarms in the car park.

I still have the hotel bill at home which includes and entry "MISC £250 - ROOF ACCESS" Yes, we paid them £125 each to be escorted onto the roof to take pics. I thought at the time we were being ripped off but I have the slides in my collection and to me the experience was priceless!
Sorry for the ramble... [:I]
