Got a letter from Texaco this morning to say that the conversion rate for Texaco stars will be 'simplified' from 1st January 2005.

Currently we get 1000 FC points for 600 Texaco points. From 1st January the exchange rate will be 1:1.

Anyone with lots of stars should make sure they are converted before the end of the year.

Do you do a lot of driving or do you just like the bacon rolls?

Haven't converted any yet but will do now. On a related issue, do they insist the flying club account must be the same name or can you "pay" into someone elses?

Both my daughter and husbands FC accounts could do with a few more miles to get them to half a PE reward leg each.

On my Global Club card I am a number, not a name;) I remember I registered my FC account with them, I wouldn't think they are too concerned if the points are creditted to a family member, especially if you live in the same house.

Pat, you can deposit your FC miles into any account, I regularly covert my stars into my wife's FC account, when you call just provide the approriate FC account number, that's all there is to it.

I have spoken to We-O-U and will be penning a strong letter condeming this devaluation, where I live my local Texaco is never the cheapest but the 600:1000 rate made it worth while. At 1000:1000 I would rather save two or three pence per litre elsewhere. [:(!]

I would think it will be one of those situations where FC will blame Texaco and Texaco will blame FC.

When Amex Plat stopped Clubhouse access the same happened there. I complained to both VS and Amex and they just blamed each other. [:(!]

I've just tried to convert 600 stars only to be told that the new rate is already in effect and I'm too late[:(]. They say they've only publicised this to anyone who is already known to convert stars to miles, but that it will be in the newsletter they are sending out later this month. The fact that they've not mailed it yet (and therefore technically not told anyone) didn't seem to cut any ice[V]

Is there any chance you could PM me with an extract of the text of the letter you received with the January date before I email them to complain?

Thanks

Pat

Heard from WEOU today - the rate has already changed for new members. The old rate is being honoured for existing members who are known to WEOU to be FC "converters" for the rest of this year.

They have agreed to convert my stars at the old rate.:)

PS - rate on VS website today still at 600/1000.

Got a load of bumpf through from we.o.u today.

They are heavily promoting the Virgin Atlantic connection now, and making out it's a new partner of theirs. The new 1000 stars = 1000 miles rate is obviously what's promoted, rather than the 600 stars [:(].

They've also mentioned a redesign for the website to take place mid-October, and this will introduce online redemption of stars, but no mention if that includes flying club conversions.

Also they are promoting their latest offer which is: Fill up between 4th and 31st October with at least £30 and use your we.o.u card and you get a scratchcard with a guaranteed prize (which could include free stars amongst other things).

Phew! That's all folks :)

Would have preferred the stars to convert to miles though;)

Good luck to the rest of you

I have not received a reply to my letter yet or even an acknowledgement of it.

We did get a mailer from them dated 20th September which was promoting the arrangement with flying Club like it was something new? Very odd! It actually stated "...but we've got some great new offers with the introduction of the Virgin Atlantic Flying Club..."

The glossy with the letter has a whole page (A5 ish) devoted to FC with a pic of the Statue of Liberty and the sub heading '1000 stars = 1000 flying club miles'.

Now we know that the previous arrangement was not publicised widely but it appears they are re-launching the program now they have a more advantageous (to them) exchange rate.

I will post when and if I receive a reply.

I got 20 extra we.o.u. points on my scratchcard yesterday. Nearly at the 600 mark again.

Bazz - yes it's quite bizarre (and untruthful!) how they are promoting the flying club link.

mitchja - 20 points isn't bad. But i think they can do better! I didn't fill up today in the end because i want to make sure i can definitely fit £30 in there when I do (not too difficult these days!) and i'm sure my gauge is moving higher each time i look (i wish :)).
