Rather than suffer a really early morning we decided to spend the night at an airport hotel and so after checking in online in the morning used the twilight check in service to drop our bags off. There was only a short wait and the check in staff were very pleasant. They were out of fast track stickers they just wrote the words on.
Taxi at 7.30 the next morning and it was straight through to the fast track lane (glad to see that the lack of sticker wasnt an obstacle!). The departure lounge was packed and couldnt even be bothered to queue for a newspaper let alone breakfast!
The gate was opened on time and boarded had already started by the time we got there so got straight through. Was pleased to see Ruby Tuesday at the gate as that meant Odyssey and I do like to play on the games to pass the time. We pushed back on time and it was a short taxi to take off after the welcome fizz.
Had someone in front who was in full recline all the time and was up and down constantly. Although we did still have enough room my wife asked if we could move to the vacant exit row seats. As soon as we got settled then dinner was served and we both chose Chicken Korma which we thought was excellent.
After watching Magicians (not a bad movie) we decided to go for a walk downstairs. I noticed the fruit selection and drinks laid out at the back for picking on the way down. I was surprised to see the PE section downstairs empty as well as only a handful of people in that Economy section. The new economy seats look a lot better than the old blue red and orange. It was the old-new(!!) PE seats down there so sat downstairs for a while and had a snooze. Cabin crew questioned if we were from PE upstairs and I flashed the purple and gold socks as proof!
Went back upstairs to our assigned seats for landing. After arrival got chatting to the crew about where they were staying and about Tobago. The crew on the flight I thought were excellent they were polite, helpful and welcoming. [y]
All in all a great start to the holidays and with 3 hours to kill in Barbados headed straight for the Barbados Concorde experience possibly the only other way I would rather have arrived in Barbados!
