Northwest Airlines are the latest US airline to announce Heathrow-USA services following the introduction of Open Skies. The new services are as follows (all daily):

Minneapolis (from 30 March)
Detroit (from 2 May)
Seattle (from 2 June)

Any idea of timetable for this??!

Seatle is a bit of a shock. Its about time BA got some competition on the route although I have been hoping it would be a future VS destination. Am not sure if there is enough demand for 3 flights a day.

So there we have it- all legacy's now serving LHR. I still believe LGW is going to be hit the hardest by all this. Certainly doesn't make LGW look very attractive if BAA are forced to sell it off.

Northworst already fly the SEA-AMS-LHR route, several business partners I used to work with fly that route in order to get to LHR and commented that it was always packed out, but they took it as it was a lot cheaper than BA direct. I'm not sure on x3 daily but there is definitely traffic for a competitor. Not sure I fancy their product though.

Thanks,
Sarah

I love GJ, bless him, but I don't fly the Orange one [:D]

Cheers for the timetables, Paul [y]

Great for me, having just signed up a customer in Eagan, Minneapolis, but I'd still prefer it if VS flew there. The NWA business class seat doesn't look to bad ...

Well if GJ (sorry about all this speculation on your travel requirements mate) chooses VS via SFO over BA, he's hardly going to succumb to NW[:)]

The NWA business class is not bad at all, the NW international product is nice, the IFE is AVOD, the food is good and the seat/bed pretty nice...FA's need the stick removed, about the only down side and as has been said, the price is hard to beat on a lot of routes.

Not too impressed with the timetable. Seattle flight is very poor times.

Re product: NW use 330's with AVOD etc and I believe their product to not be that bad. Lets not forget- VS is one of the best products in the sky. For the vast majority what NW offer is good enough. We are all just too picky [}:)].

They are also getting the 787, however I think this is going to be used for west coast Asia flights.

You are right, the only good thing about the SEA flight is the fact that you could do a day at the work in London then fly into Seattle, get a nights rest then go to work the following day

Blowing my own trumpet gently and hopefully not too intrusively, I wrote a trip report about a trip on them in Y at the start of last year. While one swallow doesn't make a summer and one decent flight doesn't make an airline, the experience I had was as good as any transatlantic flight I've had on an airline other than VS or BA, and the NW A330 IFE was particularly good. I'd be happy to give them another try, on a route that wasn't served by VS, if the price was competitive.

Toot!

GJ has said to me that if his next VS flight SFO-LHR is not pinpoint perfect (as he said in his PM to me) he's flying BA.

This TR and this one will give you why he will fly BA (or NW even, you just don't know).
