Just received this email from EZY:

Thanks for booking your flight with us and including our Speedy Boarding service. That's great news for us. Now some great news for you! To celebrate the launch of our Speedy Boarding Plus! service, we're upgrading you to try it for yourself for free!

Speedy Boarding Plus! still allows you to be among the first called to board your flight, but as an added benefit also gives you use of a dedicated check-in area. It offers you a new level of customer experience and is available now at many of our airports.

Visit our website for full details and availability of Speedy Boarding Plus!

Must admit, we've been extremely impressed with EZY over the last year on the may hops to Rhodes we've been doing via Athens. For punctuality, quality of a/c & overall experience they beat BA hands down. Great news that they're picking up GB's routes as well [y]

Nice move easyJet!

I look forward to them coming to MAN when they take over GB Airways routes (and when they finally announce more MAN routes).

I have to say when having travelled on Easyjet they have been pretty good. However, why the hell you would want to be FIRST onto the plane (maybe exit rows?) Its bad enough sitting on there for the time of the flight I dont know why you would want to be on first and therefore longer.....[?]

I imagine the biggest reason is so you can get sat together, if you wait until the end on a full flight the likely scenario would be that you would be split up from your other half/family/friends etc.

Thats what i dont understand about people who form the huge scrum to be first on the plane especially long haul, you only have to sit and wait for everyone else to board. I always wait until the last few people from the queue get on so i can walk straight on the plane. I guess that its different if your in the top class as you would want to get settled in but for Y class????

Virgin Crazy that is the wonder of the great British public. They are so worried that they might miss something by not being first they would rather endure another half an hour been cramped in to their Y seat then do the sensible thing and wait. The a/c won't leave without them but you might as well try explaining it to a brick wall as to try and get your average B&S pax to see it.

Don't forget though about storing your hand luggage. Since most people don't put valuables in their hold luggage, that one item of hand luggage tends to have expensive contents. If you get on last in Y you'll sometimes find the bins above you full (especially if you're assigned an area near where there is cabin equipment stored) and it then has to go somewhere out of sight - with the tiny amount of legroom no-way is it going under the seat in front! This makes me a middle queuer in general.

That and an exit seat where the legroom is superior to just about everywhere else on the plane (besides the front row) and you don't have to pre-book it or pay a fee to sit there. [:)]

Well, there is nothing more us Brits love than joining a queue.....[}:)]

I do see the benefits now, don't have a family so didn't think about kids etc. Although if your on your own or just a couple I still think your nuts to get on a plane in economy any earlier than you have to.

[:?] the exit rows on EZY aren't that different to standard in terms of legroom (though they do feature a distinguishing grey headrest)

...and to Gelding's point you're only on a few minutes longer than the rest of the passengers. EZY turnarounds are generally under a half hour including all the malarkey about counting passengers and signing manifests etc.

I use SpeedyBoarding for two reasons;

a) As McM points out above, the overhead lockers get crammed as people bring on the biggest hand luggage they are allowed (to avoid paying the hold fee). At this time of year the situation is made worse by both coats and also people buying presents after security,

b) I can nab a window or aisle seat and not have to put up with being squeezed in the centre.

To me being near the front (or even the back) for speed of disembarkation doesn't come into it as I still need to wait for my hold luggage at the carousel; I find I can't cram a week's worth of work and leisure clothes plus my laptop and assorted paraphenalia into a single piece of hand luggage.
