As you are only there for 2 nights and you plan on doing a lot near FW, I would look at a hotel very local. No point wasting too much time on public transport getting there.

I last stayed at the Radisson on Beach St (pretty much as close as you can get). The hotel was OK, nothing more, nothing less. It does have an IHOP right next door and the staff remembered me after my first visit[y] It's as safe as any hotel can be and as a tourist area, the SFPD's finest are usually about all night.

As with most city center hotels, it won't be cheap but a bit of shopping around might get a deal but don't for get to try directly.

In the end I plumped for the Hotel Vitale for it's location and reviews. Reasonably happy with the price too.

Hi Lynne

I can recommend The Renaissance, which is in the Marriott group. It is located on California right next to the crossover point of the cable cars. The stops are literally 30 seconds from the hotel lobby.

On the cable car you can get to almost anywhere you may want to go, including Union Sq for shopping, Fishermas wharf, Chinatown etc etc none of which is more than a 10-15 min ride, the cable car ride is all part of SF too !.

Whilst the Fishermans Wharf area is a great place to visit, some of it was not my cup of tea at night (personal view of course).

I have made several short visits to SF, so am very used to making the most of a short time spent there.

Anything else you need to know PM me.

Cheers
