Worst hotel ever?

Following on from the worst flight thread, here's a thread for the worst hotel/apartments/private house/villa you've ever stayed in.

Lucky for me I've never stayed anywhere that I would consider as really bad, but one or two places which are bad enough for me to not go back in a hurry!

I'll make this easy.

The Adelphi, Liverpool.

Days Inn, Homestead, Florida.

Going by the noises outside I thought I was going to be murdered in my bed, along with the rest of the hotel guests. Front door double locked, wedged. No lights on as to show the room was occupied and lots of prayer to any God that was listening.

Mine has to be a small apartment block on the ISAF base in Kabul, Afghanistan, in January 2007. It was strangely named the 'Kabul Palace', the temperature was 'minus brass monkeys', 6 inches of snow, my room had no windows but did have a summer aircon unit !, one squeeky bunk bed, a lovely cold shower, apart from that it was great.

I have to say that compared to the troops doing real work in other parts of the country, I lived in luxury and was very grateful.

I only warmed up during my stopover in Dubai on the way back

The Travelodge in Croydon. The room I had the week before Christmas had the smoke detector slap bang above the heater. When you turned the heater on the alarm went off!

Like Darren - a Days Inn - but in Sacramento
We arrived late to be told that the only room was off a tunnel thro' the block.
The door had obviously been kicked in previously.
Drug dealers outside the door.

We also ended up with the door wedged and cases piled behind.
Glad when morning came and we were able to get out.

I have never stayed in Days Inn since and never will.

Classic. Mmm, a toss-up for me.

Waldorf-Astoria - crap service (but they sorted that out on my return)
Hilton Brighton Metropole - general all round crapness and obscene rates
Thames Hotel - just for the Fawlty Towers one man does it all aspect.
Sheraton Dubai Creek - thinking waking guests at 8:45am for 2 days running with maintenance work is fine.

St Giles, London.

After spending 20 minutes trying to check-in because they lost my reservation I was given a room that was already occupied.
Within 2 hours of getting my own room two other people had tried to get in (they were also given the same room number as me).

When I went to complain the person on reception say this could never happen, spoke to the supervisor who said 'your F***ing joking sorry about that mate!'

Ahh that reminds me of the Britannia Country House in Manchester. Exactly the same problem, so I helped them out by cancelling my reservation and going to another hotel. Looked like the perfect place for a gypsy wedding too. Come to think of it, it's part of the same group as the Adelphi....

Mandarin oriental Kahala hotel in HNL (no longer under MO management).The worse nickel and dimming badly laid out hole I have had the misfortune to stay at.Closely followed by the 4 seasons on Park lane the refit is long overdue,hope they get some better staff as well.

I am trying to remember the name of the hotel I stayed at on Majorca..nice enough hotel, except the beds were straight out of an army barracks, I ended up sleeping on the floor a couple of nights [:?]

It has to be the Scenic Circle Hotel in Fox Glacier New Zealand.

The bed sheets were made out of plastic like they use for old people/toddlers in case they have an accident in the night and the duvet had some dried blood and other dodgy stains on it. There was no heating, the shower was foul and they had the cheek to claim the hotel had been recently done up. And finally the room was in one of those 1950's cheap Butlins style rooms- the ones which have cardboard as walls! My mother slept the whole night in her clothes and a coat as she didnt wish to touch the bed sheets and made us check out at 6.30am the next morning!

The biggest joke is that it was the most expensive hotel on the trip. We stayed in the Westin in Auckland for cheaper- this place was a whooping $350NZ a night!

Probably the Best Western, Luchon, France.

Another vote for Days Inn, this time in Silver Spring.

We were booked in by a client, and I believe we were there a whole ten minutes before I demanded that we left.

It wasn't just the bullet proof glass at reception that put me off, I wasn't over impressed by the bloodstains on the room carpet either....

Radisson Mayfair. Nice hotel, but on both visits I have been woken on Sunday mornings by a trio of false fire alarms between 6.15am and 8am...........

The New Prospect B&B, now probably long gone, in Blackpool.
Owner greeted us with 'what the f**k do you want', brown stains on bed sheets and the worst cooked breakfast just plonked down in front of you, they didn't even take the beans and tomatoes off the plate.

I was only 15 and it did cost only £9 PPPN though.....

More recently the 'Comfort' Inn on W 72nd in comes close.
