Hi,

My first post to V-Flyer - hello! I'm just wondering whether there are any Virgin Cabin Crew members on V-Flyer, as I'm curious about the job and have a few questions regarding the role! Yeah, I know… curiosity killed the cat! [8)] I really want to work for Virgin but I'm very worried about one or two things!

I don’t live in London, but I’m prepared to move down for the job (if I get it, of course [:I] ). As with any new career and relocation though, I need to assess expenses, cost of living, rent, time away from home on flights etc. Essentially, I need to work out whether I’m financially able to live and work in the south east whilst working for Virgin!

Unfortunately I can’t assess the financial and lifestyle risks without knowing how much a junior cabin crew member takes home a month (net), and how badly it affects a crew’s lifestyle.

I realise that is a very personal question to ask of someone, and I do apologise for the blatant rudeness of it [|)] . I’m well aware of the 10k basic salary, but I have no idea of the additional expenses that crew get, and therefore it’s impossible to work out roughly how much I’ll earn – which is really preventing me from making the decision whether to go for the job or not! [V]

Any help from anyone who has experience or answers to my questions would be gratefully received! Many thanks! :)

Hi tezc744,

As well as the basic salary we are also given allowances to cover our expenses whilst we are away. These vary from route to route but to give you an idea a USA night stop trip is between $144 to $212.

The average roster consists of 4 to 6 trips a month. You will have a minimum of two days off in between trips.

It sounds like a cliche but it is a lifestyle as well as a job. You will be working weekends, Bank Holidays etc.

As far as relocation is concerned, we have crew who live all over the UK and Europe. Although it would be a good idea to live close to either LHR or LGW for the initial six month probationary period, there is nothing to stop you moving back home once you have your travel concessions.

Hope this helps. If you have any more questions, please feel to free to ask. [8D]

On our recent trip to SF were were chatting to some of the crew. They were saying that a lot of crew live up in Manchester and that some of the early morning flights down to London are like a cabin crew bus service.
