Hi,

Mandalay Bay
Sunday Sep 19
Rate $109
Room 28122 ( Bali Wing I think)

Arrived at 2pm and no problem checking in
Room was large( half way up the hallway approx) and well maintained and decor was light coloured.
Room faced north up the strip ( yeah!!) and the northern end of the runways at LAS. The glass has a tint of gold so you do not get the full natural light of the strip
Bathroom has large bath, separate wc, separate shower and two sinks with lots of goodies.
Two cupboards ( one of which has a small safe)

Beach area was beautiful with large sandy beach ,wave pool ( not too crowded), lazy river , two large pools.-to enter the pool area each guest must have a key)
New this year was the Moorea beach club/pool ( did not go in) and South lagoon pool ( closed for season)
No major queues at the Bayside buffet and service was good with tow large areas by the windows overlooking the pool area. Breakfast was very good
There is a jogging track outside the fence to the pool area.
Rooms quiet enough with good ac ( there is a fresh air vent at the bottom of the windows)
Check out time is 11am but got a 1pm check out time with no charge.

The Hotel
Mon-Thurs 20-23rd Sept
Rate ($150pn)
Room 25806

I arrived about 130 after wheeling my suitcase through the casino walkway.
The hotel entrance is more black but well lit in a modern style ( if you do not like black you may not enjoy it here
:D.
At check in I asked for a high level room ( non smoking with a king bed) -this would only be available from 3-5pm.
There were queens on a lower floor but I settled on a smoking king ( floor 25
There are two banks of elevators ( one for 1-24 and one for 25-42)
Corridors are darker than MB but well lit.
The room has switches for housekeeping light ( green) and do not disturb ( red)
The room was huge with a wc by the main door ,large living room with wet bar/minibar , printer on the table, dimmmer lights for the three spotlights by the window, 42 inch plasma tv.
The bedroom had similar dimmer lights, large tv, bathrobe and slippers, lots of drawer space. Curtains overlapped ( blocking out the light). you could also turn out the room lights from your bed table 9 unlike other hotels where the room light switch is by the entrance and only the bed table lights are by the bedside table).

The bathroom was large ( separate wc) ,huge bath with a waterfall shaped tap to fill it up, two sinks and separate shower. Lighting was very good, lots of goodies and also a weight scale. There is also a night light close to floor level that comes on when the main light is off.

Towels were large and comfy.
Did not notice any smoking smell at all.
no problem about charging anything at M Bay to your room.

Newspaper delivered free of charge each morning USA today- nice touch)
Good sound proofing between rooms.
My room overlooked the MBay pool are and southern end of LAS.
No problems waiting for lifts.
Good store for sundries and good coffee bar ( huge pastries).
On my final night the room next door and a room further up the hallway had ther doors open and very lound music blaring out into the hallway and even in my living room you could hear through the walls. I was thinking about calling security but at aorund 10pm they wend out and the music stopped and did not hear any more sounds.

As you walk from the hotel lobby to M Bay you pass the M Bay theatre ( for Mama mia) and Mandalay Place ( walkway to Luxor). It is close to the house of blues.

No problem walking along the casino in your swimming shorts to the pool area.

My package included two tickets to use the bathouse spa and gym ( $27 normally)( closes at 10pm)
The gym is very large and nice with funky colours ( Red & blue walls).
Two spas ( hot and cool) with lounge chairs
Sauna
Steam room ( eucalyptus smell very nice)
Staff were good.
Overall excellent stay.

I have just receied another offer through the email for rooms at $150pn.
Thinking about going back 2-5 Jan after a day in San Francisco- non discounted rate is $300 so good value.

Regards

Thanks for the info [8D]

Both hotles are at the far south end of the strip (good for plane spotting - I know;)) is the monorail running down that far yet[?]

Many thanks

TBS - Thanks for the great report on The Hotel - i had a look around the lobby when i was in Vegas in the summer and i liked that "black" style a lot.

Buns - The monorail runs along the east side of the strip, down as far as MGM. I find the quickest way of getting to the Luxor and Mandalay Bay is to leave MGM via the front entrance (fairly quick if you have just arrived by the monorail) and walk along the strip on that side of the road, opposite the Luxor. Walking through all the hotels tends to take significantly longer.

I quite like the South end of the strip. It seems a bit less claustrophobic, and Mandalay Bay is a great place to eat drink and gamble so it's worth making your way down there.

Hi,

There is also a tram/monrail from the Excalibur running non stop to the Mandalay Bay. On the return leg however it stops at the Luxor ( you enter the Luxor underneath the Sphinx and stops at the other end of the Excalibur than the tram returning to the M bAy.

Also the LV monorail ( MGM to LV Hilton) was not running when I was there ( parts kept falling off apparently

Yeah thanks TBS

I too prefer the Luxor end of the strip. When I was there in Apr it took approx. 40 mins to walk from Caesars to the Luxor to get my annual Blue Man Group fix at the Luxor.

Blue Man Group is highly recommended....their Vegas show is by far the best though.

BMG at The Luxor is thoroughly recommended - unusual, but enjoyable. There were rumours it was moving to The Venetian, no doubt with a concurrent price rise, so get in there quick!:)
