This is political correctness gone mad (he said, looking up from his Daily Telegraph, his monocle falling from his eye)!

'Leisure route' sounds, at best, far too American and, at worst, down right creepy. Keep it at B&S. There's absolutely nothing wrong with it and we all know what the term refers to without inferring any kind of 'put-down'. We're posh, and we carry our bucket and spade with pride! And if anyone knows a better way to build a sand castle, then do tell...

Let us worry about things of greater consequence - like whether the term 'Upper Class' is in fact an indirect and insidious tool of the bourgeoisie intended to exentuate their hold over the proletariat and bolster their own postion of apparent power and assumed social standing.

I am firmly in the 'non-derogatory' camp. The B&S reference to me brings to mind happy holidaymakers on their way to as fun destination. As opposed to bored or stressed business people on their way to another conference or sales meeting.

There are lots of everyday terms, used on Frequent Flier boards that I can get annoyed about... Lounge Dragons, being one; but B&S can stay for me. [;)][:D]

Ah you see the issue is that you're factoring in the cost of GETTING there to indicate whether it is luxurious and I'm saying that's cheating. If you live in Miami you can holiday there for half the price you could holiday in Blackpool BEFORE you add in flights. Add in flights and it'll cost 5x more to holiday in Blackpool. Like when I used to live on the Wirral we'd never dream of holidaying in North Wales -that was for day trips, but our Geordie friends thought it was a legitimate holiday destinaion.

Your arguments re: trade terms don't really hold water either. Why are you comfortable with TLAs for airports, and codes for fares (all of which are pure industry but not with B&S which is only a 2LA.

I guess the question is what does the term B&S invoke. For some it seems to evoke happy thoughts, for others a put down. I'm guessing you're in the latter group :)

Perhaps it's time for the masses to take to the streets and reclaim the term...a bit like the scene in The Commitments where they are watching the James Brown video and Jimmy is laying down the position of the northsiders. Or perhaps Tom Robinson could be drafted in the lay down a suitable anthem. T-shirts, perhaps, to be worn by all (including those in UC) with an appropriate slogan ? I did try to come up with one but can find few words that rhyme with 'bucket'..

Ah, but 'B&S Warrior' could work on the T-shirts. Or 'No laptop. No stress. I'm flyin' B&S'.

OK, needs some more work...

It is unfortunate that GDE1966 short-circuited his own argument because I do agree that B&S is often used in a patronizing manner. Indeed I have in the past used the term to such effect myself. However, it is unfaillingly obvious from the context whether this is intended or not and unless gross offence is intended to another V-flyer I can see no compelling reason to accede to GDE1966's would-be censorship.

B&S it is for me [y]..... I'd be interested in you pointing me to some threads where the term comes across as patronising ??

Are you by chance the person who took away those great things we used to collect on the back of Robinsons jam jars or the type who stops our chidren singing 'bah bah black sheep' in school ?

I really cant believe you are that sensitive or whether you are just having a laugh ! .....

Cheers

I kind of like the B&S term, though Vegas doesn't fit into the group and it is an LGW flight.....For now.

I was lucky enough as a kid to spend a lot of my summer holidays playing on the beach on a lot of the Caribbean islands and we always left from LGW, even now when I go through LGW I have little flashbacks to those times....and lets face it it's mostly because the south terminal has not changed that much in 30 years [:#]

MDV: it's not political correctness gone mad. Truth be said, I'm possibly as politically incorrect and thick skinned as it gets.

Decker: my earlier suspicion that you're on the wind-up is now confirmed, and on that basis see no point in continuing the debate.

mas66: what a sad wee person you are.

Actually, on reading some of the utter nonsense, I'm going to take my leave as a contributor to this message board, and return to the perennial lurkdom that attracted me here in the first place.

Keep up the good work.

Now c'mon, Neil. You're just upset 'cause he didn't include Hull in his list of downmarket B&S destinations...

Well, it's a been long time since anyone's left the forum in a strop, isn't it[;)]?
