Put 'em to the sword, IMHO.

I see it more as being 'de-selected' - life's a b***h sometimes.

I'm sorry to tell you it looks like the IFBT role will be no more.

All IFBT's are now being grounded so they can all attend a meeting regarding the IFBT role onboard.

They have also been told by crew control they are unable to advise them on future flights from the 8th of April.

Virgin have started taking IFBT's off flight as of today and all crew have been advised of the meeting.

Virgin are not doing this for nothing..something big is going to be announced.

Do you have a reference for that? A shame if they are.

Back on the gum thing ... never understood it, why would you want to eat something that makes you look like a cow? No crew member should have gum on board while they are wearing their uniform (so including when on break) it just looks horrible.

If they pull the IFBT then one would assume it will be replaced with something else! I'am in the better food camp choosing to have my treatments in the Club House.

I have no problem with crew chewing out of site but no way should it been seen by PAX or while handling food and drink.

regards

I must admit having now looked at the whole thread on CC.com it really does look like the role is gone. After all they are now de rostering people up until 10th April. Thats a hell of a lot of flights without IBFT's onboard.

One wonders what exactly VS will bring in to replace them. Skynanny?!? Chef? The sad thing is that if they do bring in a Chef it only just follows what other airlines have done but then again if food is improved maybe its a good thing. I guess from VS' point of view it does make sense, as one person put it on CC.com, it is a non profit making department and presumably all the consumer consultation has shown its not a major reason why people select UCS.

I wonder if IBFT's will be able to transfer to CC or maybe to some beauty orientated role in the CH?!?

Shame, even if the IFBT was never that much of a deal clincher for me...

If it's true what you say, please for once let us see something big in return, not just more penny pinching and eroding of the product.

I read on cabincrew.com that the IFBT's will find out on Tuesday what is going on? Admittely there does look to be a big announcement, and i do genuinely feel for all the IFBT's right now as it must be very worrying not to know what is going to happen. Lets wait and see what the confirmed news is on Tuesday.

Thanks,
Sarah

My worry is that there may not be much point in debating what may or may not replace the IFBTs. I fear that they'll be facing the same fate as amenity packs, Freedom menus, flowers, red cushions etc. and that any prospect of onboard chefs or any other kind of costly improvements is a pretty forlorn hope in The Land of the Bean Counters.

If the rumours turn out to be true it will be sad news indeed; after all IFBTs, unlike cushions and flowers, may well be having to look for another job before too long...

As someone who has several close friends that are IFBT's, all I can say is I am gutted for them. Some of them have spent 10 years working for this company. I would hope at the VERY least they would be offered roles as Senior Cabin Crew. It's not right. They took the jobs to travel and do what they enjoy, not sit in an airport lounge. I think we should be going in the opposite direction and having 2 IFBT's onboard and doing rotation. If one was doing inseat treatments while the other was at the work station, and then swapping and so on, they could get much more done.

With the exception of very few airlines around the world, most are finding it pretty tough at the moment. Although to be honest with SQ's backing I can't imagine that everything is that bad. And lets remember that it was only yesterday a huge thread appeared on A.net about VS buying LH's stake in BD.

If it is penny pinching then I would not be surprised to hear the excuse of open skies being used as a reason.

Well they're still mentioned (as is the Freedom menu) on the VS website.

I'd like to think that even VS would have the decency to tell the IFBTs of their fate before removing any reference to them from the website.

I hope that the IFBT's stay, they are something that sets VS aside from the rest. I hope that if the role is of IBFT goes, they should all be given the option of becoming Cabin Crew. If you have several hundred IFBT's becoming Senior Crew, it will result in several hundred 'Junior' Cabin Crew who are due for promotion being put back for considerable amount of time, too long for many who have already been overlooked for years as a result of numerous changes to the promotions system.

A very sad day if it indeed proves to be true. I am assuming that they will be offered roles as Crew within the company - on our flight back from Shanghai on Monday the IFBT was having her 6mth review with her supervisor on board, and the flight out for the other Bitches also had another IFBT having their review.

I really feel for you guys, particularly as you now have the stress about worrying about what is actually going on over the weekend.

As a LGW flyer, I am sure that those of us flying those routes and from manchester and Glasgow will miss the IFBT

I can't see them being removed from flying duties, after all they're fully trained CC responsible for ac safety. From my limited experience they really are pros - not just in the beauty tratment aspect. And as an UC PAX it feels that little bit special being served by a person all in white! What a shame if it proves to be true. It certainly generates an ooh factor amongst PAX from other airlines.
