Concorde
Nice spot.
I guess it's all been said before, but coincidentally I was walking to London Bridge today with a colleague to watch the Red Allows/Eurofighter flypast (the enormous crowd on the bridge was a spectacle in itself). We talked about Concorde on the way and what a shame it is that she no longer flies. It breaks my heart that the UK was, until recently, so much at the forefront of science, technology and engineering. Successive governments over the past couple of decades no longer see the intangible as well as the tangible benefits to such investment, culminating recently with even Jodrell Bank facing closure.
Instead it's the service industries that see the limelight, and perhaps yes, London may be overtaking New York as a financial centre depending on how you massage the figures, but that doesn't give me that nice warm Patriotic glow inside that being half of Concorde did even if it was with the French. Oops, did I say the P word? Is that allowed?
I remember being in the FarceTrack security line at LHR T3 the day the A380 made its test flight a couple of years ago, and a loud American in front of me saying 'you'll never get me on that thing'. I was bursting to ask him if he'd had the same opinion if it had Boeing written on the side of it. Much of the same sour grapes occurred with the end of Concorde I am sure. UK PLC spent £2bn or whatever it was to make Concorde work, a lot of money to be sure especially in those days. The US spent the same on an SST, and what did our friends have to show for it?
I know as Brits we don't have a lot to be proud of (dare I mention T5?) but Concorde was one of the proudest.
Cheers, Howard

That piece of film always makes me blub 'she flies',fills me full of pride and then makes way for anger that she is still not in the sky[:#].
If any of you like models BA are selling off the last of the 100 scale ones in both the final paint job and the best one the Landor design. They were £195 but are down to £52.50 with the postage there are only just over 100 left.Mrs JP is ecstatic to have a 100 scale Concorde residing in our dinning room[:D]

Just one incredible passenger aircraft which has never been matched and unlikely to be matched at any time soon.
Luckily I had the pleasure of flying on one but unlikely to experience anything similar again.

Bad man, bad man. I bought one of each, being as I flew in both liveries [B)]. They arrived a couple of days ago. Beautiful. Not sure how long the remaining ones will last, or if they will re-order. I know of a few others who have also bought subsequent to your recommendation.

First flew her for my 21st with my closest friends and fell in love with both her and flying in general. Kept it a yearly tradition after that until her premature retirement.
