Looks like it will have a knock on effect for the next couple of days. The VS15 is already 8 hours late today.

Yesterday's 15 appeared to be 24 hours delayed: there's a 115 running today.

My brother was on this flight.

They were told at checkin at 11am that the flight was delayed until 18:45pm due to a technical fault with the aircraft and were apparently given 10,000 airmiles compensation and £15 vouchers straight away!

It then became 19:45, then 12:00 next day (vs115), and they were finally bused to a Brighton hotel for the night.

Is it normal to be given airmiles compensation at check-in? My brother suspects that they knew already the flight was going to be delayed until the next day hence the compensation offer [ii]

Today's VS15 scheduled for 22:00! [n] looking like this will take quite a while to get back on track!

The 27 was 3 1/2 hours late too!

Just reading the Dibb, as I am on the VS15 on Friday. Someone checking in at twilight today has been told by check in staff that they are bringing in another plane on Thursday to help with delays.

Given problems VS are currently having to get pax back from cape town I wonder where the check in agent got this gem of wisdom from [:?]

I doubt the accuracy of the statement but it will be interesting to see how quickly they can gets flights back to some normality.

Personally, I'm not that worried - it'll be a matter of staying in the Hilton a bit longer and hopefully some extra time in the CH and a long sleep on the flight.

Have seen miles being dished out in the CH before for a 3 hour delay, only for UC pax mind you.

Hopefully they will be able to clear this down soon.

One of the problems of 'getting back to normal' is that VS normality on this route is to be delayed from the posted scheduled times.
The on time performance outside problems such as the weather is truly awful.

As an aside, with all the problems and cost cutting going on, is VS ripe for take over and consolidation into another airline?

Highly unlikely. Most airlines, especially US-based are strapped for cash and at least 4 have failed in the last few weeks, banks aren't exactly offering loans at cheap rates either.

I can't think of any airline who has the money (or balls) to attempt to buy VS out.

Got 10,000 miles and £15 when I checked in for VS21 (LHR-IAD) back in Oct '07 and found the flight was cancelled when the plane went technical in IAD the night before. Luckily for me I was booked on to VS55 that flew later on that day.

Did actually found out about the cancellation before I left the Sheraton Skyline and tried to get some answers from Customer Services who was telling me to re-arrange the flight with Expedia. Went to T3 and was happy with the treatment I recieved from the check-in staff. Just had an 8 hour wait, wish I was Au![:D]

So does anyone know whether or not you can stay in the CH for an extended period, given these circumstances?

Hi Claire

Yes, can't remember which trip it was last year, but they kept the clubhouse open for the few of us and even came round and offered another treatment or two at the touch salon.

I'm due to fly out on VS27 in a couple of weeks - the problems mentioned here all appear to be related to the VS15. IS there a specific reason for this? Does the 15 suffer from more delays than the 27 and if so, does anyone know why this could be?

The 15 is the last flight to depart LGW every day pretty much. This means that it often feels the knock on effect of delays of other flights.

Currently in the LGW clubhouse. Fortunately knew last night that we were due for a 16.00 departure and asked for a late check out at the Hilton. I can confirm that the Clubhouse is fully open and indeed they are offering treatments.

Off to get my talons tailored after soup and sandwiches.

Have a Virgin Red in hand too and will no doubt sleep for the duration of the flight. Happy days.
