VS & cabin baggage

How hot are VS on enforcing cabin baggage rules in UC?

I've just bought a new cabin baggage case that is 52x38x20cm - so it fits in nicely with the Low Cost Carriers (Ryanair & SleazyJet) cabin baggage restrictions.

Now even 'up front' in UC, Virgin only allow a slightly smaller carry on bag (lighter weight limit too - but that is not really an issue). I just wondered if anyone on here had encountered 'dragons' at the boarding gate insisting that cabin baggage fit in the sizer thingy & checking bags at the gate if they failed the sizer?

I am guessing the answer to this is 'no', given the somewhat large cabin baggage some people were taking on my last UC round trip, but just wanted to make sure.

I should add that the only reason I am asking this is because back in 2004 I did a Y flight from LGW to MCO. My cabin baggage was just over 6.1 kilos (but within the permitted size). I got a mini-lecture at check-in about how I could add nothing into the bag once airside 'buy NO duty free / put nothing more in the bag' etc.

Cant really answer your one directly except I have never been asked or challeneged (and alwyas an UCS passenger). Altough I only carry onboard my LapTop bag but not been asked to show it.

I've also never been challenged when just carrying a laptop bag in UC - hence the reason for the question about if VS look out for cabin baggage that is a bit closer to the size limit [or just over it].

I find carry-on one of those areas you have to be a bit careful with. While you might get away with a couple of kilo's or an inch or 3, over the limit, all it takes is one check-in agent having a bad day and you could be faced with a complete re-pack.

On all my VS flights I've only ever once been asked to weigh / check my cabin bag - I was in PE and although it was in size it was somewhat overweight and I was made to check it in.

In UC I've never been asked, but then I've never tried to do a Naomi Campbell.

i had 1 miserable cow checking us in in economy to vegas last year and insisting as my carry on was 2 k's over that i needed to repack, fortunatly my wifes was 3 k under and i told her we would repack before boarding - never did, never got rechallenged

Why describe her as a 'miserable cow'? She was simply doing her job.

quite frankly she was letting the side down - i normally recieve good service from Virgin staff, which is one of the main reasons i use them, this one on the other hand was a complete mare

Apart from the fact that I object strenuously to calling anyone a miserable cow and believe that such insults are going against the ethos of the board, could you please explain how someone can be both a miserable cow and a mare?

it sounds like she was only doing her job and she did in the end agree to you repacking with your wife later on, rather than doing it at the desk there and then. I think it sounds like she was being quite reasonable overall. And rules are rules, people often get away with taking more, but in the end that is a risk you have to play on the day.....I find overseas places more hot on weighing (although not so much of a problem at the UC desks!).

Seriously though, in recent weeks / months I've read people (and by this I mean women) being referred to as miserable cows, twats, bints, mares ... I'd like the mods to take a bit of a stand here [V].

Thanks for the heads up Slinky - it made me look up bint as I'd always assumed it was just Arabic for girl but it does seem to be pejorative.
