Ive got a trip coming up next month to SYD ...... VS are full in UC on the dates I need to return [:(] !!

So I now have a choice between BA, Qantas, Etihad, Emirates or Singapore (no availability on 380 flights)

My normal choice would be BA but just wonder if anyone has any thoughts about Business Class on the others for the long treck down under ?

Cheers

For Emirates, be careful of the a/c choice. The 77W is the better a/c on the LON-DXB route and the A345 is the preferred option DXB-SYD (2-2-2 config).

The seat comfort in Business on EK isn't up to BA/VS - none are horizontal - and there are a pleathora of different seat versions depending on the a/c.

DXB can be irritating as a transfer hub because many flights have to use remote stands with extremely long bus transfers and sometimes long security waits. This should be alleviated when the new Terminal 3 opens (presently scheduled in August I believe).

The EK lounges at Terminal 1 are woefully inadequate for the number of pax using them too. Even the F lounge is often bursting at the seams.

Given the choice between BA and EK for Business, I think I would choose BA if price is no object. Emirates is often pretty cheap, and there's a reason for that.

Bear in mind that EK F is often cheaper than BA J on the kangaroo run if you can convince your travel dept. That is worth doing!

Regarding the other carriers, if you can get a flight that arrives in SYD outside rush hour (rush hour is early to mid morning) you will often be pleasantly rewarded with an empty immigration hall at SYD. After a 20+ hour flight, standing in line for an hour at immigration is no fun at all.

Or UA via LAX or SFO
Or AA/QF via LAX or SFO
Or NZ via HKG and AKL

Etihad are an excellent airline, well I had a good experience in Y and I've heard very few bad things about them. I haven't flown in J so can't comment on it but the seats are fully flat/massage function etc. and again I've heard good things about it. Their aircraft are all new and offer the same product on all types so don't have to worry about getting a different cabin like you do with EK. The fares aren't bad either.

AUH isn't the best airport to transfer through (in Y anyway)

What about QF, you get PJ's and my father-in-law (future) travels with them all the time, and he thinks they are up there with comfort, food and FA's, again no flat bed but overall a great experience. [:D]

Let us know who you choose and I look forward to reading the TR. [y]

Gone for the easy (although most expensive ! ) option of BA on the basis they have 2 flights a day 7 days a week so gives me greater flexibility and I know what the flight will be like comfort and service wise..... cheers for the thoughts guys [:)]
