Seven cities have applied for a host city for 2016 Summer Olympic Games.

Baku, Azerbaijan
Chicago, USA
Doha, Qatar
Madrid, Spain
Prague, Czech Republic
Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
Tokyo, Japan

IOC has chosen four cities out of this list as a candidate city to host 2016 Summer Olympic Games.

Rio de Janeiro
Tokyo

These four cities will now compete to be a host city for 2016 Summer Olympic Games. The final decision will be made by IOC on October 2, 2009.

Personally I would love to see Rio get it for the simple reason it has never been in South America. However I believe the front-runners to be Tokyo and Madrid

I'd doubt Madrid will get it - too close to the London 2012 waste of my taxes [}:)]

My money's on Chicago.

Yes, some of the wooden head TV people have enough trouble saying London, United Kingdom, let alone Baku, Azerbaijan.

Oh, how disappointing that Baku has not been chosen.

As others have said, surely Rio must be the front runner. With London have the 2012 and Beijing the 2008 Olympics it is a bit to close for Madrid and Tokyo, so it seems the most natural choice as the IOC do like to mix it up.

Oh I am hoping for Rio as well. I haven't been but people that have say it is an amazing city.

I have a strong love for Tokyo and would love to see it there, the games would take about twice as long with all the bowing that would be required though.

Can't see it being Madrid, don't they try to rotate it around continents or something so can't see it going to Europe twice in a row.

I think the Yanks still have a hard job convincing the IOC to allow them to do a 'Coco-Cola Nike Olympics brought to you by McDonalds' in Chicago.

I have no interest in going as hotel, travel and ticket prices will be insane regardless of location. I really did not want the damn 2012 Olympics - all this 'we won' charade. Oh yes, we won alright - a bunch of muppets that have somehow managed to under forecast the budget and will bring London to a standstill. I'm planning on being out of the country for the entire duration.

And I then read that the fools in this country are trying to 'win' the 2018 World Cup. Good Lord. At least we have the stadiums in the UK to already cope with that.

I'll happily watch the Olympics on TV, I have after all paid for my TV licence and Sky Subscription. [:p]

A 'host' nation expects the rest of the nation to pay for the 'privilege' of hosting the games? Mmm.

But the games is given to a city not a nation.

Also have to remember that Londoners are paying more taxes to have the games.

And of course there are the benefits to the country as a whole. I know that my old school (which is in your neck of the woods I believe) is going to be used as a pre games holding camp by at least two nations at the Games. And then there is all the extra jobs in construction industry etc etc. Ok I will stop now as I am beginning to sound like Seb himself.

Personally I think its a great thing and something that we should be proud of having. Being British though we bash the idea for all its worth and then will wonder why it was not as good as it could have been. Just my 2 cents worth.
